Nominations for Volunteer Service Awards and Outstanding Achievement Awards are being accepted until December 15. The annual ceremonies are held to acknowledge the tremendous contribu- tions volunteers make to cultural and multicultural communities in Ontario. "Volunteers in Ontario contribute thousands of hours of work for valued cultural and citizenship activities," Minister Phillips said. "The Volunteer Awards program pays tribute to this deserving, but often silent constituency of support. I hope people will take a moment to nominate a volunteer for a Volunteer Service Award." In previous years, the Awards were presented by the former Ministry of Citizenship and Culture. This year, the Awards will be offered by the newly created Ministry of Citizenship. "I want to assure everyone that this year the Volunteer Awards Program will still be available to clients of both ministries," Minister Phillips said. "I am only too aware of the importance of voluntarism in Ontario and the way in which the Volunteer Awards Program encourages this form of participation." The Volunteer Awards Program offers two types of awards. Volunteer Service Awards acknowledge volunteers who have given five, 10, 15 or more years of service to non-profit community theatres, art galleries, public libraries, heritage, music or dance organizations or to community UEEN 9 SEAFORTH Thurs. - Fri. - Sat. Playhouse considering children's theatre workshop for summer GRAND BEND - Huron Country Playhouse is considering a six week Children's Theatre Workshop for July and August of 1988. The workshop would be for young people aged six to 15 and would be designed to enrich children in the arts as well as give them some added summer fun in a struc- tured learning context. There would be two groups; one for ages six to nine; the other for ages 10 to 15. The workshop would run one week for each child from Monday to Friday from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Each week long workshop would involve 25 to 30 young people and activities would in- clude creative movement, improa' 4 nn. playmaking, clown and mime as well as singing. Instructors teaching the workshop would be three professionals and five post- secondary Theatre Arts students and would have expertise in each activity area. The In- structors would encourage the young people to take an active part in the activities, rather than be passive bystanders. The cost for this unique Children's Theatre Workshop would be $100. and the Playhouse will pursue plans for this project only if there is a favorable response from the general public. For anyone interested in this exciting pro- ject, please contact Vicki Mann at the Playhouse at 238-8387.
