GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1987—PAGE 19
CreateABook lets child become a star
BY ANNE CHIISHOLM
STANLEY TWP. - Every person likes to
read about themselves. They like to read
the hockey write-up that tells how they
deked the goalie and put the puck in the
net. They like to read about the new store
they opened or what they had to say at a
meeting.
So, it only makes sense that if you're try-
ing to get a child interested in reading, that
you put their name in a story book. And
while you're at it, why not add a few
friends' or relatives' names as well.
Create -A -Book does exactly that. It is an
18 page hardcovered book with colorful
pictures to illustrate the story. The star of
the book is the child who receives it.
Together, with three friends specifically
selected, the star can go through six dif-
ferent adventures - The Big Parade, My
Christmas Wish, My School Fun Book, The
Birthday Surprise, My Space Adventure
and The Magic Dreidle (a history of
Jewish Hanukkah).
As of October, Cindy Taylor is the
,Create -A -Book representative for Huron
and Perth Counties. She first heard about
the books this summer.
"After my second son was born, I was
watching a television talk show. There
were two guys demonstrating and talking
about it and they said they wanted dealers
in each of the counties. I thought it would
be a good business to start at home," said
Mrs. Taylor.

Explaining how the Create -A -Book
system works, Mrs. Taylor said, "It's all
done on computers. The stories are on
discs and I punch in the child's information
and that is printed on pre-printed pages by
the printer. It takes about 15 minutes."
Another feature of the book is a dedica-
tion page located at the front of the book,
This page has the child's name, who gave
the book to them and the year.
So far the response to Create -A -Book has
been good.
"One lady said her daughter just loved
the book. She wished she'd had a video.
camera to catch her expression. Her eyes
were so big when she heard her name."
In order to let the public know that
Create -A -Book is available in this area,
Mrs. Taylor has taken her computer and
materials to various craft shows. The last
show she did was the one sponsored by the
Vanastra Lioness.
Mrs. Taylor will also do home
demonstrations or give demonstrations in
stores or malls.
"What people don't realize is that it can
be done while they wait...It takes about 15
minutes," said Mrs. Taylor.
As well, Mrs. Taylor hopes to get spon-
sors to sponsor a school class, giving each
student a book for graduation.
`If I can get the sponsors, this would
work for kindergarten, Grade 1 and even
nursery schools," she said.
Also offered by Create -A -Book are per-
sonalized Santa letters, Easter letters,
safety letters, Hanukkah letters and a
fhoto sitcker that can be placed in the
ront of each book, showing who the star of
the story is.
FUND RAISING VENTURE FOR CPH
To help the Clinton Public Hospital
(CPH) with their fund raising project for
the new obstetrical wing, Mrs. Taylor will
donate $2.50 from each book sold from
CPH, Huronview or someone from the
fund raising committee.
Each book is valued at $9.95.
Those wishing to order a book can do so
by phoning Mrs. Taylor at 233-3121 or
writing to her at RR1 Brucefield, Ontario,
NOM 1JO, or picking up brochures at CPH,
Huronview, the Credit Union and Royal

Record.
