On November 20, the Goderich Commmittee of Ducks Unlimited
hosted its fourth annual fund-raising dinner and auction at Saltford
Valley Hall, raising over $20,000 for the preservation of wetlands
areas such as the Hullett Wildlife area north of Clinton. Pictured

Ducks Unlimited raises $20,000
On November 20, 1987 the Goderich Com-
mittee of Ducks Unlimitedhosted its
fourth annual fund-raising dinner and auc-
tion at Saltford Valley Hall. In spite of the
adverse winter weather,178,people were in
attendance at this charity event, and over
$20,000 was raised.
After dinner, raffle tickets were drawn
on the more than 50 raffle prizes on
display. Prizes ranged from gift cer-
tificates from local businesses, to met-
chandise including men's and women's
clothing, to the framed original program
cover designed by local wildlife artist
William Creighton. Raffle ticket sales net-
ted over $2,400.

CANADIAN TIRE
Thirty items were displayed in a silent
auction format. Bidders signed their name
and bid on such items as a custom built
duck boat, trout fishing, jewellery,
original Indian art, limited edition prints
and figurines, decoy carvings and airline
tickets. By the end of the bidding, over
$6,000 had been raised.
Twenty-one items were featured in the.
live auction, conducted by auctioneer
Bruce Rathwell of Seaforth. Items
featured included limited edition prints
bought for up to $450, a Tom Taber limited
edition decoy purchased for $310, and two
original water colour paintings by William
Creighton purchased for $850. Two items

auctioned were somewhat more unusual.
The first was a 10 -hour cruise through the
Welland Canal on a Misener Steamship
Line Laker for 4 persons. The successful
bidder was Wayne . Lyons of Goderich.
John Schaefer was the successful bidder
on a theatre trip for two to New York, in-
cluding return air fare and hotel, donated
by Champion Road Machinery and Air On-
tario. In total the live auction raised over
$8,000.
$1,200 was raised on a special raffle on a
20 gauge Beretta shotgun, specially
engraved for Ducks Unlimited. The gun
was won by Ross McDaniel of Goderich.
Fifteen new memberships were taken
out in the Greenwing Program. This pro-
gram is a conservation program for
Youngsters ages seven to 17.
Several other prizes were given away as
door prizes, early bird prizes and bonus
raffle prizes.
After the final tally, over $20,000 was
raised for Ducks Unlimited Canada for the
preservation and maintenance of wetlands
areas such as the Hullett Wildlife Area
north of Clinton.
The Goderich Committee in the four
years since its inception has raised over
$60,000 with the help of local businesses,
donors and sponsors. The Committee is
chaired by Bruce A. Sully, and the other
members of the Committee are Jack

tewell, Jim Remington, Burns Ross, Steve
