Calachuchi is the name of a flower found
in Florae Craig's native Philippines. It is
also the name of her wicker craft supply
shop at 73 Hamilton Street, Goderich,
which opened in October of 1
"I wanted to provide a service to local
artisans," Craig explained, "they can pur-
chase wicker supplies here and make their
own crafts."
Calachuchi, however, is more than a
craft material depot.
"Wicker is never out of style," Craig
said, "It goes well with any other furniture
or decor and is always in demand. We
carry practically every wicker item a
customer would want."
She explained that wicker is a general
term for several different types of weaved
vine, including rattan - a tough stemmed
climbing palm used in the larger furniture
and dining room sets sold at Calachuchi,
buri - a finer weave used in peacock
chairs, and the familiar bamboo - a strong
hollow tropical grass.
Craig said flower baskets, swivel
rockers, and wall arrangements are the
most popular items purchased at the store.
She said they make crafts to order at
Calachuchi and that she and her two
employees are happy to help design wall
and floral arrangements for their
customers.

Bending opens ens new insurance -financial service
Goderich has a new insurance and finan-
cial service for people looking for new,
ways to get the most out of their hard-
earned dollars. Located at 50 South Street,
David Bending and Associates Insurance
and Financial Services went into operation
in August.
"Our goal," said David Bending; "is to
help people make long term investment
plans in order for them to achieve finan-
cial security."
Bending said a general practice is for
him to sit down with a client, obtain detail-
ed financial information from the client
and then draw up a fully computerized
financial profile.
"We are an independant corporation,"
he said, "this means we work for the client
and not for a specific insurance company,
this gives us more options in dealing with
clients and their needs."
Bending has consistently received
recognition from the insurance industry
for customer service and sales.
Bending and his wife recently moved to
Goderich from Guelph. He said they love
the town and are building a home on pro-
perty they purchased here.
Champion signs new
Champion Road Machinery Ltd. has
signed a new collective agreement with its
525 hourly -paid and office employees,
members of local 1863 International
Association of Machinists and Areospace
workers.
The two-year agreement, formally sign-
ed Nov. 12 calls for across-the-board two

the cost of living allowance formula in
each of the two years of the contract.
The contract covers 75 office employees
at Champion's Goderich plant and approx-
imately 450 hourly employees.. The last
contract expired July 31, 1987.
