(photo by Lou -Ann DeBruyn) Curing season opens with a bang Despite the fact that the recent weather seems more conducive to golf than curling, the curling season opened with a bang this past week. More than one hundred members have joined the club this year, under the organization of Jon Ginn and his.commit- tee, and five different draws are underway. The Monday night Mixed Industrial has 12 teams competing, and coming up with early wins were the following teams: The Health Unit, The Firemen, Karen Kirk's Team, Ed Mundle's McGees squad, The Lady Foresters. and Terry Worsell's Plumbers. Tuesday the ladies square off, and the early winners were Vicki Culbert . who defeated Faye Ribey 7-5, and Nancy MacKinnon who walloped Eleanor Erskine 13-6. At present, the ladies have five teams. and are hoping for a sixth to 'make the draw an even one. ON THE ROCKS at the Maitland The ladies also had their official opening on Wednesday, Nov. llth with a dinner and some fun.curling. No word on who was the big winner in this! The Thursday Industrial league once again is the big event of the week, with 16 teams in the competition. Four new teams have joined the fray, and with names like the • `Ruthless Rookies", the "Sheppardton Shufflers", "Gardiners Big Enders" and "Dixies Flower °Power", they are sure to leave their mark as they meet the old established teams in this highly com- petitive league. In the 9 p.m. draw, "Herman's Hurlers" made short work of the "Hosers" (former- ly the "Firemen") while the "Sifto Shakers" shook up the "V & G Grippers". "Dixies Flower Power" powered their way over the hapless "Sheppardton Shuf- flers", while the closest match -up of the night saw the "Ruthless Rookies" score a close 5-4 victory over "Gardiners Big Enders".
