foster parents paid special tribute
By Shelley McPhee Haist
VARNA - Foster parents and volunteers
were paid a special tribute here on October
28 when a special banquet was held in their
honor. This annual event put on by the
Family and Children's Service (FCS) of
Huron County highlights the contributions
made by the dozens of men and women who
work to provide homes for foster children.
Special certificates and awards were
given to foster parents who have proven
themselves to be long and valued supporters
of FCS.
In presenting the awards, Peggy Rivers of
Goderich noted, "Our volunteers are an in-
valuable resource who demonstrate consis-
tent examples of positive influences for the
children and families in Huron County."
Russell Alton and his wife Margaret were
honored for the more than 10 years of ser-
vice that they have provided to FCS. For the
past decade, Russell has volunteered his
time as a driver for the agency, and with
Margaret as his navigator, the Goderich
couple have provided much needed
transportation.
Volunteer drivers for FCS have logged
some 43,800 km. in the past nine months.
Bob and Shirley Gauley of Walton were
recognized for the five years of service that
they have contributed to FCS. The Gauleys
have been working with the Child Reach
Program, a special project for the parents
of pre-school children. In one session alone
they had 25 youngsters.

with FCS as a high school student. She has
volunteered her time to'assist mothers with
babysitting and child care and has also
developed a special friendship with a
teenaged girl.

the five years of assistance he has given in
organizing drives in the country. He has
worked as a volunteer during that time has
