National Film Board's 'Train of Dreams'
to be shown in Goderich next Wednesday
Goderich and area residents will be able
to attend a showing of the acclaimed film
"Train of Dreams", the story of a 16 -year-
old juvenile delinquet, November 4 at 7
p.m. at the Park Theatre in Goderich.
Train of Dreams is the most recent film
to emerge from the National Film Board of
Canada's Alternative Drama Program.
The movie, written by Sally Bochner,
John N. Smith and Sam Grana and
directed by John N. Smith, was partially
filmed at the Bluewater Centre for Young
Offenders in Goderich. Local and area
persons were also recruited for acting and
producing purposes.
The film focuses on 16 -year-old thief and
troublemaker Tony Abruzzi (played by
Montreal actor Jason St. Amour) who is
sentenced to two years in an Ontario cor-
rectional institute for young offenders.
While at the centre, he encounters a black
counsellor (played by Fred Ward) who
tries to help the delinquets understand and
correct their mistakes.
Although Bochner, Smith and Grana
wrote the storyline, the actors were
responsible for improvising the narrative.
According to Canadian critics who have
viewed the film in Montreal, the film
torks in spite of its serious nature because
he issueof juvenile delinquency is dealt
with in an entertaining format, using nar-
rative fiction in a documentary style. ,

cited about the film's showing in Goderich
although they do stress it is not a film
about Bluewater Centre.
"This isn't a film about the Centre. I
think it's important people realizethis filar
has nothing to do with Bluewater Centre,"
Carl DeGrandis, superintendent at
Bluewater Centre, said.
He added the Centre was used as a film
site last September by the National Film
Board.
"The board was looking for a place to
film and we offered them our facilities.
We simply responded to the film boards
need for a place," he said.
DeGrandis also noted the Centre is never
referred to in the film nor is the film in-
dicative of the Centre's programs.
Sari Kraler., assistant superintendent at
Bluewater Centre, 20 minutes of the actual
films are scenes filmed at Bluewater
Centre.
Aside from the fact that the film was
shot at Bluewater Centre and that local
talent was used in the film, some residents
at Bluewater Centre were also involved
with the production side of the film, Kraler
noted.
"I'm anxious to see the film and to see
the way they have portrayed a young of-
fender," Kraler said. "We're hoping it will
be a positive movie of the story of a young
offender."
A special showing for invited guests and
Centre residents will be held at the Park
Theatre at 5 p.m. The general public can
view the show at 7 p.m., Wednesday,
November 4 at the theatre. Kraler noted
associate producer Sally Bochner and
writer -director John N. Smith are ex-
pected to attend the showing. Donations
will be taken at the door by Bluewater Cen-
tre volunteers. All donations will go to
