Learn how to child -proof your house at Nov. 2 workshop Common household items, which are often stored within easy reach of tiny hands, are the most frequent causes of poisonings in children under five years old. ^ Furniture polish, lighter fluid, household cleaners, and shampoo are only a few of the many poisons in your home. A "Safety and Emergency Care for Young Children" Workshop being sponsored by the Huron County Health Unit on Monday, November 9 at the Goderich Legion, will, give you some safety tips for "child -proofing" your home. You can attend the workshop by pre -registering with the Health Unit. Call 524-8301 before Nov. 2�, Enrollment is limited! A "poison -proof" home will reduce the chances of your child swallowing a poison. Always keep poisonous substances well out of the reach of children in a locked cup- board. Never underestimate a child's ability to reach, climb, and open unlocked cupboards. When you purchase drugs or over-the-counter medications, ask your pharmacist to use child -resistant con- tainers. They do make a difference, but to be even safer. store your medications in a locked cupboard. Your workshop supplies, such as paint and paint thinners, should also be stored in a locked cupboard. In spite of your efforts to protect your child, accidents do happen'. Be prepared by knowing first aid and emergency care! Information on how to treat the most com- mon childhood emergencies will be presented at the workshop.
