Why do we study French in school
BY MRS. DYCK
It's always interesting to hear what kids
have to say "on any topic. As part of the early
work in French this year, I asked grade
seven and eight students why we take
French at school. Here is an interesting
sampling of their answers.
Bryan Pickell - Grade 8: So we can grow
up to be crazy French teachers like Mrs.
Dyck.
Bill Irwin: We take French in school
because we can travel to a total of 75 coun-
tries 45 english 35 trench) with it and
English.
Drew Macaulay: All -the -good lookin girls
in Canada mostly speak French so when we
meet them we can get to know them.
Angie Cunningham 8B: I think we have
french in school because by the time "we"
get out of school there will probably be alot
more french people in Canada so we'll use it
alot, anyway there are thirty countries that
speak french.
Jeff Chan 8B rm 103: We take french at
school because Mrs. Dyck needs a job or
she'd turn out as a bum and if sh2 was a
bum, she'd always be bugging us for a dime
or something.
Rob Sims - 7A: We take French in School
so that when we're all rich and go the
France we'll know how to speak French.
Shelley Alcock 8B: , We take french in
school so we can use it in our future,
Careers, travelling etc. (So we can, order
french fries with class).
Stacey Henry 8B: We take -french for fun
and to learn so we can go to places and meet

people, eat forgien foods, and get jobs.
Jamie Riehl - Grade 8: because if I go to
Quebec if I go to a resturant and ask for sup-
per and then I find out I'm getting married.
Mike Vessey - Grade 7: We take french in
school because French is the second official
language of Canada and so we can talk in
french to our brothers and sisters and con-
fuse the heck out of our parents.
Krista Glenn 7A: We take french so when
we get older we will be able to use a second
language and get a better job.
and
Jason
Marsha Macaulay 8B: We learn french at
school because alot of cute guys are french
.and you have to learn how to talk to them.
Shawn Carver: We need to take french
because the earth might be evacuated and
blowe everybody in to orbit and lander on
another plant and the aliens speak french,
and then we can tallf to them.
Andrew McLarty - 8A: In case you're on a
plane and French terrosits take over and
command everyone to speak french or die.

Young Teen Trends. A temporary style,
amusement, fashion etc. That's Webster's
definition of a fad.
Let me start off by telling you what I con-
=sider to be a fad. To me a fad is a fashion or
'raze that everyone is interested in for a
short period of time.
Just to name a few trends of the 80s. I'd

say: acid -washed jeans, jean jackets ana
purses; banana clips, slouch socks; con-

A short list of brand names would include:
Ralph Lauren, Levis, Calvin Klein, Con-
verse, Rebok, Cotton Ginny, Beaver
Canoe, North by Northwest, Roots, Cocohut
Joe, Pierre Cardin, Ocean Pacific, etc.
As I said before, fads aren't just fashion,

tney can be amusements, too! For example,
the walkman lets you keep the beat
wherever you go. Ghettoblasters let you
share the music with everyone, and
skateboards have good mileage and keep
you fit at the same time.
Fads have and will be around for a long
time.
So, just when you think you've seen it all,
stick around, you ain't seen nothing, yet.
