Join the circus to be trainer BY NAOMI DURNIN GRADE 7A It was a hot and sticky afternoon and I was sitting out in our old porch out front reading the paper, and thinking about my parents who were never home. If they were never home, I did not need to be either -Just then I saw a big bold ad reading, "Wanted at the Zanny Circus an Elephant trainer. Located in .Zannyville.' I had alwa;., loved 'animals and this was the perfect chance to get away from my parents. I decided to head out to the Zanny circus bright and early in the morning. That night I wrote a note to my parents, and got my bags packed for the morning. In the morning, I jumped out of bed as soon as*I heard the buzzing of my alarm clock. I dressed in my best clothes to make a good impression, picked up my bags and headed off to the Zanny Circus. When I got there they hired me instantly. They told me the elephant was very easy to get along with, and his name was Joe. As soon as I' saw him I knew we would be great friends! Joe and I got along great and spent every day together. That night while I was sleeping, Joe hoisted me up on his back and started to head to the jungle. When I woke up., I was covered in wet leaves. I looked around and I knew what had happened. He had kidnapped me! That day we went berry picking. When I thought I was done picking I heard a strange grunting sound coming from the trees: I peeked through the vines and saw a tall dark FEATURE REPORT man. I was very frightened but I knew I had Joe beside me. He told me it was alright and not to be frightened. That night the man stayed with us. He told us he had been in the jungle ever since he was a boy. His mother had never loved him and left him in the jungle to die. After his story he said we'd better get a good night's sleep if we were going to try to get out of the jungle. In the morning Joe, the man and I started to get out of the jungle, but -half way we met my parents and the police. Boy, was I ever glad to see my parents! They told me they loved me and Joe could stay with us too. You know what? The man found his mother and I found out that I really loved my parents after all.
