Curriculum
includes
oral speaking
BY A. MacLENNAN
Oral speeches or public speaking is a part
of our curriculum in Grades 4-8 every
January and February. The Royal Cana-
dian Legion is closely associated with
Robertson in several ways and the public
speaking programme is an important one.
Three to five minute speeches are
prepared and presented at the classroom
level with the exceptional ones progressing
to a contest in our auditorium. Heading
notes may be used, but the speech is usually
memorized. Props or gestures can be used if
the speaker wishes.
Two separate contests are held for Grades
4 - 6 and for Grades 7 and 8.
Two winners in each division represent
our school at a contest held at the legion for
the area schools.
The real winners, however, are all the
students who prepare speeches and get up at
front of their own classroom and present
their speeches the best that they can for
their teacher and classmates.
