The office is the centre of activity and the busiest person at the school is Mr. Angus MacLennan, principal. Assisted by a super secretary, Mrs. Doris Harrison, the school runs very efficiently. Consistent discipline is. goal BY A. MacLENNAN At Robertson, our focus is on encouraging appropriate behaviour. Fair, firm and con- sistent discipline is our goal. The many pupil responsibilities have been listed as three main reminders for the school year: 1. Be Punctual and Be prepared; 2. Show Respect to People and for Property; 3. Always, Remember Your Good Manners. Sometimes it is necessary to pinpoint more specifically some of the expectations, although they still can be positive statements: 1. Walk in the halls; 2. Use ap- propriate language; 3. Keep your hands to yourself; 4. Move outside for recess; 5. Dress in an appropriate' manner; 6. Leave the stones on the ground. - Robertson has developed a school code of behaviour which has had input from parents, students and staff members. It is divided into three sections that not only list "Expected Behaviour",but also "Reason for Behaviour" and "Possible Consequences". Only occasionally, is it necessary to issue negative reminders like the following: 1. No fighting; .2. No wrestling holds; 3. No pushing, shoving or tripping; 4. No rough play; 5. No tree or fence climbing. There are at least two areas where the school's discipline and group co-operation can quickly be determined. One is noise levels in the halls and the other is noise levels at an assembly. In the school year that we are just starting, both have been very, very good. At Robertson, we have hundreds of super students. who show excellent co-operation. Communications are stressed BY A. MacLENNAN Communications are a major goal for our school this year and the development of our theme "Our School and Our Community - Growing Together". The most effective regular method of school and home com munications is the monthly parents newslet- ter, Round Up. It -is usually a lou pagelold-over-newslet- ter with our -familiar theme or logo on the front along with the Round Up Cowboy. The newsletter contains numerous pictures and tries to present items in an attractive and readable way. Many up coming activities are noted along with details of at least some of the events of the last month. We try to publish the Round Up Newslet- ter -close to -the -first of each month. = - Bike safety rules are important BY A. MacLENNAN Many students bring bikes to school. It is important that the young people remember a few safety rules and other responsibilities regarding bikes. Boys and girls, remember your traffic rules and regulations. Be careful and watch where you are going. Do not ride double and always keep your hands on the. handle bars to be safe. If you do not have a licence for your bike, take a dollar to the police station on West Street and obtain one. Be sure that You have a lock for your bike at school and be sure to -• use it. Leave the bike parked at school and never touch or ride another person's bike at school. Jane :11exander 8It
