supported by community
Another knock at the door "You're
selling what for who?"
Yes, -at Robertson Memorial we are in-
volved in fund raising and this article gives
us the opportunity to thank the Goderich
community for your continued support for
our endeavours.
Each year a fun -raising committee of
staff members reviews our school needs and
opportunities for meeting these needs. Last
year's efforts provided free admission for
all RMPS students to several: cultural ac-
tivities arranged by the Goderich Recrea-
tion Board; new computer hardware and
software for student usage; a school
camera, books for our French department
as well as new ' ones for our Library
Resource Centre; many student kits and
projects for all our classrooms — every cent
raised is used to be a direct benefit for the
students at Robertson. The largest epen-
diture- of money from fund raising is to pay
for buses for field trips and class trips both
close by and farther away.
This year the fund-raising committee has
selected all -Canadian products for two ma-
jor fund-raising thrusts. In October, our
Kindergarten to Grade six students will be
offering a variety of stained-glass suncat-
chers. Later on, the Grade seven and eight
pupils will be involved in a cheese selling
campaign. The Student's Council is present-
ly selling Robertson sweat shirts and track
pants. Occasionally, single classrooms do
get involved in, fund raising for special pro-
jects (for example, last year two of our
classes raised funds to provide three day ex-
cursions to Camp Sylvan for outdoor
education) .
With the much appreciated help of parent
volunteers to assist in record keeping and
filling orders, very little class time needs to
be consumed for fund-raising. As a matter
of fact, school -wide fund raising. usually
enhances our total -team school spirit -and
promotes a positive sense of responsibility
and accomplishment for the students. We do
understand, due to a number of cir-
cumstances, it may be inappropriate for a
particular student to become involved with
any one of our fund-raising efforts and we
respect any decision not to participate.
If you have any questions or suggestions
about our fund-raising, please call the •
school or come to one of our regular, mon-
thly 'parent/community meetings. In the
meantime, thank you for your support and This is Robertson's student council for 1987-88. From left to right are: Leslie Brereton

Robertson Memorial Public :School is
pleased to acknowledge those people who
provide the vital links between our school
and Goderich District Collegiate Institute.

and parents. Links also provide sports and
music opportunities to our students
throughout their elementary school years.

gets better each year
• H. BROADWELL
The Student Council at Robertson seems
to get better and more involved in the
business of the school each year.
This year, students were nominated from
Grades 7 and 8 to fill the positions of Presi-
dent, Vice -President, Secretary and
Treasurer. Each of the nominees was allow-
ed to advertise with two posters and was -
granted some time to address the Student
Body at an Assembly, after which they were
voted for by ballot. This year's Executive
consists of: Shelley Alcock - President,
Leslie Brereton - Vice President, Elizabeth
Ball - Secretary and Todd Papple- -
Treasurer.
Student Council also consists of one
elected representative from each of the
eight classrooms from Grades six to eight.
The Student Council meets once per cycle
with their teacher advisors to plan their pro-
grams. They become involved in a large
assortment of activities including: sponsor-
ing school dances, working on the Santa
Claus Parade float, organizing the
Hallowe'en Costume Parade for
Kindergarten to Grade Six students, fun-
draising, such as in the School Sweatshirts,
and promoting Spirit Days throughout the
year.
It is easy to see how integral a role the Stu-
dent Council has at Robertson School.
