19:7-l38 budget
At their meeting last week the Goderich
Lions Club approved a Welfare Budget of
over $70,000.
The Boys and Girls Committee has
$13,000 from which assistance will be given
to Minor Hockey, Figure Skating,
Ringette, Music Boosters, Effective
Speaking, Free Skating, Youth Exchange,
Lady Diana Nursery School and other
youth groups in and around Goderich.
The $4,000 in the Health and Welfare
budget will be used to provide eyeglasses,
equipment, and transportation to doctors'
appointments and clinics.
The Easter Seal Committee received
$5,000 for their work with . crippled
children. The Goderich Lions Club receiv-
ed a gift of $40,000 this summer as
beneficiary in the will of a local citizen.
They also received $4,556 from the "Per-
rier Run", conducted by the Park House,
on Tiger Dunlop weekend. Both of these
donations will be administered by the Crip-
pled Children's Committee.
More than $20,000 will be donated to
organizations such as: Goderich Laketown
Band, Diabetic Society, Family &
Children's Service Christmas Bureau, Lit-
tle Theatre tickets for octogenarians,
Foster Parent's Plan, Lions summer
camps for Deaf and Blind, Participation
Lodge, Cancer Society, Arthritis Society,
Big Brothers, Heart Fund and the March
of Dimes.
The Lions Bus for Seniors, playground
equipment, and development of Lions Har-
bour Park are presently part of the Com-
munity Betterment Committee's budget
of $15,000.
An additional $4,000 has been added to
the budget of the Education Committee to
provide repayable loans to post -secondary
school students.
Canine Vision Canada will receive
$6,000. This is the approximate cost of
training one dog and matching him with
his new master. This amount is in addition
to the $3,100 raised in the recent Walk-a-
Dog-Athon.
To provide the revenue for these pro-
jects the Lions depend on the support of the
community in their Bingo, Beef Barbecue,
Fish Fry,,Nevada Club, and various can-
vasses. The generosity of the people of
Goderich and area is sincerely
appreciated.
