Every time I try to write something, my hands sweat. When I'm using a pencil to write, it smears and when I try to rub out the smeared marks the paper rips because it's so wet. What should I do? From, Deborah P.S. That's why I:m writing in pen. Dear Deborah, I talked with a doctor friend and he said that sometimes it runs in families — a family gene, or may be caused by being tensed up and worried about something. Maybe you get uptight when you write. Try to relax when you write. Find out what's bothering you. Dear Advisor, My problem is that one of my best friends moved away and I never see her. Her name is Railagh Canipble. She now lives in Oakville. Your friend, L.R. Dear L.R., If you have her address you could write her and give her your address. Tell her to write back and you could be pen pals. You could giver her all the news. P.S. You can make other friends even though it won't be the same. KIDS KORNER Colleen Osborn Dear Advisor, I have a problem. You see my dog doesn't like sleepign with me and my Mom doesn't like my dog sleeping with her. So when mom moves into my bed the dog won't sleep at the end of the bed. She sleeps up at the top of the bed on my pillow and on my head. What should I do? From, A.S. The Schooley family has an apple farm near Simcoe, Ontario and the Lorenzo fami- ly farms near the village of LaVajia, 120 kilometres from Santo Domingo . in the Dominican Republic.. The two families share a common bond: they both farm their own land. But, they've been learning a tot about their different far- ming techniques and lifestyles through their children's correspondence. Francia Lorenzo, 10, has written the On- tario World Food Day Co-Ordinating Com- mittee to give Canadians a sample of a day in her life in the Dominican Republic. Melissa Schooley, 1.1, also described what' it's like to spend a day at her family farm in Simcoe, Ontario. •. This is just one project started by the On- tario World Food Day Co-Ordinating Com- mittee to bring about dialogue between small-scale farmers and to focus attention on the plight of global food production. World Food Day commemorates the foun- ding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization ( F.A.O.) in Quebec City in 1945. The purpose of the day is to foster awareness of global food and hunger issues. World Food Day activities in Ontario are organized under the auspices of the Ontario Co-Ordinating Committee, the provincial section of the WFD Association of Canada: The Ontario Coordinating Committee was established three years ago and includes representatives from: The Ontario Ministry -MX L1t1C, / DECK FOR P/CAUP T RUC's'' LOCAL DEALER WANTED (519) 236-4239 PAUL'S DELIVERY . One. of the major responsibilities of the Ontario Co-ordinating. Committee is the development, production and distribution of educational resource materials focusing on a yearly theme. The 1987 theme is "Small - Seale Food Producers" and over 1,500 educational kits geared to the elementary and secondary level have been produced. These kits have been so well received by educators that demand has far exceeded supply. Other activities include the proclamation of World Food Day by municipalities across Ontario and the organization of events in many communities around the province. Ontarians are being, encouraged to become more aware of global food issues and to take a more active role in the search for solutions, as well as to make contribu- tions of money or volunteer effort to any of the agencies involved in food -related activities. How long can the most fertile land in On- tario be gobbled up by development before we feel the repercussions? How long will it be before—we have to' watch another episode of starvation in Ethiopia on television? Only political will and public awareness can help solve the problems of hunger and food production. Anyway I left disappointed and walked over and had a bowl of soup at Knowles Restaurant where they were serving Elderberry pie to Sunday -go -to -church people. Then I walked up the main street and across from the "Hardy Boys Pizza, Lasagna and Spaghetti House" where help is needed and you can apply within, there's a shop called The Picture Place. In their window is a genuine oil painting entitled "Cherrydale Farm" with two strapping Clydesdales hitched to a big red wagon charging through a snow drift with the farmhouse and barn set back among snow -clad trees. And it's a real place west of Dunnville but it cost $370 and besides the store was closed. The town was quiet and deserted and I thought if the burglar alarm went off at the Canadian Tire Store it would be cause enough for a festival. I went back over to Elroy's Market and it was open. Out front sat big Elroy, grin- ning and severely testing the strength of a wooden fold -up chair. Elroy's sell fresh fruit and vegetables and axe handles. In no immediate need of an axe handle I bought some fruit and a few tomatoes. On the way out I said to Elroy: "Guess there's not a lot happening in Dunnville today?" He laughed loudly and said: "Never is." And we both looked out at the town for awhile and I wanted to tell him about the woeful absence of local art and how art should imitate life but Dunnville's art im- itates the Place Pigalle but then Elroy took a long sip from his coffee cup and said: "Never is". And that ended it right there. Introducing... George E. Smith Appliance Repair Service Keep your name before the buyer.
