LUCKNOW DISTRICT CO-OPERATIVE 529-7953 Doug Tiffin, Petroleum Manager — 357-3608 s arts Robertson wins boys soccer title On Tuesday, Oct. 6, four area public shools - Robertson Memorial, Colborne, Brookside and Holmesville - sent their best into town for a round robin Senior (Gr. 7 & 8) soccer tournament. Girls' teams met at the Agricultural Park, while the boys used the G.D.C.I. facilities. In boys' competition, Robertson earned the championship pennant, by winning all three of their games w convincing fashion. Against Holmesville, Robertson won 3-0 on two goals by Brent Anderson and a single by Paul Wheeler. Sean Pellow in goal earn- ed the shut -out. Against Brookside, the local boys pressed hard for a 2-0 win on goals by Mark Phillips and Chad Papple. David Boyce played shut -out goal -tending in the second game. In the, final game, which was shortened by heavy rain, the Goderich squad built up a 3-0 lead on quick goals by Sean Pellow and two by Jason_ Cook. Boyce and Pellow shared the shut- out in the final game. The runner-up pennant was won by Brookside P.S., with two wins and a loss in three games. Brookside beat Colborne, 2-0, and Holmesville 1-0 for second place honours. Third place was awarded to Col- borne P.S., on their 2-1 win over Holmesville. • In girls' games, Robertson girls dominated their opposition, outscoring their opponents 15-1 on the day. The girls beat Holmesville 5-1 in their first match, romped to a 6-0 win over Brookside, and were leding 4-0 against Colborne when the match was called because of driving rain. Although all the girls played well, especially strong performances were turn- ed in by Trish Runaig, Tara Cornish, Tracy Melick and Leslie Brereton on offence, and Jen Hamilton and Angie Harrison on. defence. Tammy Fisher played very well all day in goal. Runner-up pennant was awarded to Brookside P.S., with Holmesville placing third. Lions lose 4-1 The Goderich_Lions Pee Wee's seasons record was evened to a win, tie and loss as Strathroy edged the Lions 4-1 last Satur- day in Strathroy. The-contest-was-rlose throughout before the home team put the game away late in the third period. Shawn Carver scored the lone Lion goal in the second period with David Boyce assisting. On the other hand, if someone even skates close to her little Johnny, she will demand he be thrown out of the game. Capital punish- ment would be too good for the player who actually hits her son or one of his team- mates. I don't think they put any added pressure on their children. Usually the player will say, "Aw shucks mom." Quite often the antics of a player's mother will provide a good laugh in the dressing room after a game. Parents put in a great deal of time and effort to support minor hockey and they deserve to cheer as loudly as they can. SPOONERISMS: I watched the season opener of the Jr. C Sailors season and I was impressed. They outplayed Mount Forest Patriots for two out of three periods and only three first period goals kept them from winning. They should be an exciting team to watch this year. .
