On Tuesday, Oct. 6, four area public

Brookside and Holmesville - sent their best
into town for a round robin Senior (Gr. 7 &

the G.D.C.I. facilities.
In boys' competition, Robertson earned
the championship pennant, by winning all
three of their games w convincing fashion.
Against Holmesville, Robertson won 3-0 on
two goals by Brent Anderson and a single
by Paul Wheeler. Sean Pellow in goal earn-
ed the shut -out. Against Brookside, the
local boys pressed hard for a 2-0 win on
goals by Mark Phillips and Chad Papple.
David Boyce played shut -out goal -tending
in the second game. In the, final game,
which was shortened by heavy rain, the
Goderich squad built up a 3-0 lead on quick

dominated their opposition, outscoring
their opponents 15-1 on the day. The girls
beat Holmesville 5-1 in their first match,
romped to a 6-0 win over Brookside, and
were leding 4-0 against Colborne when the
match was called because of driving rain.
Although all the girls played well,
especially strong performances were turn-
ed in by Trish Runaig, Tara Cornish, Tracy
Melick and Leslie Brereton on offence, and
Jen Hamilton and Angie Harrison on.

Brookside P.S., with Holmesville placing
third.

Her son can spear, trip, or maim an oppo-
nent and she will ask incredously, "What is
he getting a penalty for?" On the other
hand, if someone even skates close to her
little Johnny, she will demand he be
thrown out of the game. Capital punish-
ment would be too good for the player who
actually hits her son or one of his team-
mates.
Most hockey moms are sweet, wonderful
people, who in their home life, wear
flowered aprons • and' bake the most in-
credible chocolate chip cookies. They are
easy to spot at the arena. They are usually
hanging over the boards trying to get their
hands around the throat of the referee.
Their husbands are usually smart enough

never try to correct their wives while they
are in the throws of a hockey frenzy.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching
the moms at a game. I don't think they put
any added pressure on their children.
Usually the player will say, "Aw shucks
mom." Quite often the antics of a player's
mother will provide a good laugh in the
dressing room after a game. Parents put
in a great deal of time and effort to support
minor hockey and they deserve to cheer as
loudly as they can.
SPOONERISMS: I watched the season
opener of the Jr. C Sailors season and I
was impressed. They outplayed Mount
Forest Patriots for two out of three periods
and only three first period goals kept them
from winning. They should be an exciting
team to watch this year. .
