PATRICK ST., GODERICH 524-2725 Bill Kirkey is flanked, by Jack Cummings, Maurice Gardiner, Ken McGee and Bill Hanly Bill Kirkey was voted Zone 1 Kin of The Year The year 1964 was a monumental one for the Goderich Kinsmen and one of their members in particular. It was in October of that year that five members of the Goderich Kinsmen; Maurice Gardiner, Jack Cumm- ings, Ken McGee, Bill Hanly and Bill Kirkey, travelled to Niagara Falls to attend the Annual District One Fall Council Meeting. All club presidents within the district, together with the district executive headed by Kinsmen Governor Mait Edgar of Clin- ton, attended. One of the main purposes of the gathering was to choose the Kinsman of the Year. The coveted award is given annually to the member who best exemplifies the mean- ing of the Kinsmen organization. A standing ovation greeted Bill Kirkey that night as his name was read as the winner. Awarded on the basis of active participa- tion, the Kinsman of the Year trophy stands as recognition to the outstanding, devoted service shown by Mr. Kirkey to his local club and his community. A Goderich version of a ticker tape parade followed the next weekend in honor of the work done by Mr. Kirkey on behalf of the Goderich Kinsmen. Sitting high with his huge trophy, Bill's smile could be seen for miles that day. Even today, Bill Kirkey stands as a shin- ing example of what a Kinsman is. He gives freely of his time to help others and is always first to donate to a worthy cause. 1964 was a big year, Bill, and they've got- ten better and better as time passes.
