The editors for this year are Rhonda Dickson (editor junior news), Joel Wright ( editor senior news) and Teresa Jefferson editor primary news). We will be planning and writing many exciting and interesting articles throughout the year. We hope you will enjoy the news and articles we will pre- sent. The editors would like to thank Mr. Farnell and Mrs. Clarke who will act as editors -in -chief. • PRIMARY NEWS Mrs. Cameron's Kindergarten 1 class are .. learning about colors. This week they made black sheep and white clouds that they covered with popcorn. In Mrs. Young's Kindergarten 2 class, they are busy doing many activities about colors and autumn. We have done activities with numbers 1 and 2 also. We also sponge painted autumn leaves for our bulletin board. Miss Mather's Grade 1 class enjoyed a trip to Art Bell's Fruit Farm on Wed., Sept. 20. We liked seeing the apple cider made and really liked tasting it. The walk through the orchard was wet but fun. We will be stu- dying apples and tasting some of the yum- my apple products. Miss Jewett's Grade 1 class went with Miss Mather's Grade 1 class to the orchard where they watched apples being pressed into cider. They also gathered Spy apples from the ground to bring back to the class for study. The class is also studying the signs of autumn and will be making crafts and paintings of the colorful season. Mrs. Blanchette's Grade 2 class is just completing a theme entitled "Me, The One And Only." They have written diamond poems about each other and discussed shar- ing and co-operation. For open house .the children made bristel board people to hold their booklet. The board people sat in their desks and parents had to try and find the 'me' that looked like their child. In Grade 2 and 3, the Dinosaur Den has been studying dinosaurs since school started. We made a life size triceratops and. with the help of Mr. Wilkins, a pteranodona on our ceiling. Tomorrow we are having a dinosaur day for the last day of dinosaur studies. The first "special me" was Michael Alton'. This week Warner Lohse is "special me." oinismomor— BROOKSIDE BROADCAST 11111111111, JUNIOR NEWS In Mr. Culp's Grade 4 class a lot of people like to play nutty neckties. We are learning about Huron County. We are rounding off numbers in math. We are learning about elephants in the library. We are reading in groups. The books are called Forth Grade Nothings, Last Was Lloyd, Chocolate Fever, The Fallen Spaceman. After we are done the books we will be doing skits with them. Grade 3, Room 10 is off to a great start. We have 27 boys and girls and have read novels and made booklets already. We're also studying trees and apples and have learned different ways to use crayons from Mrs. Graham. Mr. Farnell's room six class is studying gerbils. Mr. Farnell brought in two gerbils named Chuck and Charlie. They gnaw on cardboard and paper tubes a lot. Chuck is fatter than Charlie. Nathan feeds the ger- bils. We have been writing motorbike stories and we are really enjoying them. We are also writing a book about motorbikes. Soon we will be making pennants that will tell something about each of us. Mrs. Webster's Grade 5 class, portable one, has been studying about food. We tasted vegetables and made scrumptuous pumpkin pie. There are beautiful fruit and vegetable people mobiles hanging in our class that we created. Our class made booklets on "How to feed a kid" and "how to feed a monster." Mrs. Worsell visited us with baby Charlotte. Mrs. Worsell will be returning to .our class in January. In Sports, our, soccer tournament is on Oct. 6 with a raindate of Oct. 7. The junior games will be at Victoria Public School. The senior girls are at the agricultural park and the senior boys at GDCI. Good luck to all teams. Our cross-country meet will be held at. Wawanosh Conservation Area on Oct. 15 with a raindate of Oct. 16. Victoria, Robertson, Holmesville, ' Colborne and Brookside schools with be competing. Our houseleague system is in full swing. We are almost finished our soccer schedule. Volleyball will be our next activity. SENIOR NEWS Mrs. Tebbut's Grade 6 class has been very busy this month. They are doing a unit on Simple Machines. They have set up a pulley in the classroom that makes heavy objects easy to lift. Mrs. Allen's Grade 7 class is busily preparing for the upcoming soccer tourna- ment. Several students have made the cross-country team. The class has also been going to Industrial Arts and Family Studies. They are learning how to sea and how to work with tools. The history, unit this term is on the Goderich Salt Mine. They are do- ing many kinds of interesting artwork that includes drawing perspective and tinting with primary colors. Lots of people won prize money at the Dungannon and Lucknow Fall Fairs. Many students are raising money by selling White Christmas Fantasy Ornaments which are very successful so far. Mr. Liddle's Grade 7 students are enjoy- ing their studies in Industrial Arts and Family Studies on Tuesday afternoons. They are learning how to use sewing machines and wood working equipment. Mr. Hazlitt's Grade 8 class is getting ready for the soccer tournament. We have been selling Christmas ornaments to raise money for the school. Some people in our class tried out for the cross country team. Mrs. Blake's library is going to have plen- ty of help this year as many students have signed up for the Library Assistant's Club. The used book sale on meet the teacher's night was very successful. Now she is plan- ning a new book sale "The Great Canadian Book Fair" which will be held on .Friday, October 9. The library will be opened until 4:30 p.m. on that day so that parents may purchase books too. STUDENTS COUNCIL The Student Council's "White Christmas Fantast Sale" is progressing well. All orders were turned into teachers and class representatives on Monday, Oct. 6. Deliveries are to be made by the end of Oc- tober. Your support is appreciated. This year our students council consists of: Warren Andrew (president), Matthew Sproul (vice-president), Doug Helm (secretary), Robert Ireland (treasurer). Our class representatives are as follows: Room 11 - Tim McNee, Room 12 - Danielle McClinchey, Room -9 - Adella Andrew, Room 8 - Chris MacDonald, Room 7 - Larissa Sproul, Portable 1- Philip Dickson, Portable 2..- G.lenn_Ferguson,_and_P_ortable 3 - Shane Webster. Bundy wows them at cartooning workshop BY TERRY LEDIET AND SHAWN CARVER .. BOOK FAIR The Great Owl Book Fair was held September- 23-29 in the school library. Students enjoyed the opportunity to pur chase quality books, posters, bookmarks and tapes. Robertson students assisted in the book fair operation and preparation by working as cashiers and drawing posters. Proceeds from this event will be used to pur- chase new library books. A big thank -you goes out to all parents and students who helped make this book fair a success! Robertson will host a second book fair in � •meq.:.
