Legion celebrating 60 years of service
Goderich Legion Branch 109 received its
charter on November 8, 1927. This year on
November 11 Legion Branch 109 will com-
mence the celebration of sixty years of ser-
vice to the Legion comrades, the country
and the community, by conducting Exer-
cise Br. 109 Jubilee 60,
Following the service of Remembrance
on November 11 of this year Branch 109
will literally launch its Diamond Jubilee
celebrations with the liberation of a bevy
of blue and gold I the Legion colours )
balloons into the sky above the Legion hall.
As remembrance is the prime reason for
the existence of the Royal Canadian
Legion it is only proper that November 11
mark the commencement of Exercise Br.
109 Jubilee 60. The Branch, on this date,
will also welcome the return of our recent-
ly retired Branch Padre, the Rev. G.
Lockhart Royal, as he comes back to
Branch 109 for this day to conduct the ser-
vice at the cenotaph. It is on Remem-
brance Day that the members of the
Legion and our community do not forget
that 68,000 young Canadian lads gave their
lives during World War I. We also do not
forget that 45,000 young Canadians (8,000
with no known grave I gave their lives that
we may live in a nation where life today is
based on freedom, honour and justice for
all.
The master plan of attack on our 60th
birthday celebrations will be to stage one
or more events at Branch 109 each month
from November 11, 1987 until November
11, 1988. This full scale campaign of Legion
celebration will allow the Branch birthday
committee led by our First Vice President
Stanley Profit to involve every age group
within the branch and the community.
Some of these events are special, some are
part of our normal Legion year.
On Saturday, November 14, 1987 Legion
Branch 109 will hold its Diamond (60thI
Jubilee dinner and dance. The guest
speaker will be the First Vice President of
the Dominion Command of the Royal
Canadian Legion, Gaston Garceau. Many
past presidents will be in attendance, some
who have left Goderich since serving as a
president of Branch 109. Tickets for this
dinner -dance will be on sale as of Friday,
Oct. 9 at the Branch canteen and are pric-
ed -at $1.5 per•person: You are-ad"wised as a -
member of the Branch to secure your
tickets early as space in the Jubilee room
is limited. A preference for tickets will be
given to all Branch 109 members and
spouses or escorts are most welcome.
On December 19 the Branch will hold its
Jubilee 60 Xmas -Draw -.dance. The Branch
will commence the year 1988 with a New
Year's Levee at which time all municipal
officials, from our town, townships and
county will be special guests of the Branch
as well as members of our Branch and the
community. 'The Branch has scheduled a
Nostalgia Night for the evening of January
15, 1988.
Legion Branch 109 will be the scene of
the Greater Branch 109 (open to all Branch
and Auxiliary members) .Dart Tourna-
