Jim and Ruth McKenzie and children spent a weekend in Cornwall recently where they attended a wedding of Ruth's cousin. Mel Jones who has been a patient in Wingham Hospital is now making his home at Dryden Manor, Lucknow, where he would welcome visitors at any time. Lee Shetler and Marie Park visited in Peterborough for a couple of days last week with Todd Park. He returned home to Dugnanon with them on Friday. On Sun- day Bill and Marie motored to Peter- borough to return him home to attend school on Monday. Congratulations to the Nile Men's slo pitch team on winning the 'A' 'champion- ship against the Lanesville Lords in a game played in Lucknow Sunday evening. It was the fifth and deciding game. Con- gratulations also to the Lucknow Kinsmen who defeated Benmiller in three straight games to capture the 'B' championship. Sympathy is extended to Helen Dawson and husband Kaye on the death of Helen's brother, Ben Straughn on Saturday in his 72nd year. Interment was in Colborne Cemetery on Monday. Communion was held on Sunday at all four churches of the United Pastoral Charge. At Dunganon, Jim and Joanne Pentland jointed the congregation and at Nile, Wayne and Deb Caldwell were welcomed. On October 13 the Youth Group meet at Brookside and the Official Board will meet at Dungannon Church. Mrs. Kathy Curran has volunteered to assist with the 23 girls in CWT. Many members of the staff of St. Joseph's and our local trustee Bernie Van Osch, along with their spouses attended. As part of the entertainment Marianne Hogen sang a selection of songs as part of a trio, HOLMESVILLE — The Senior's Choir led in the ministry of music at the United Church service on October 4. Baptism was . celebrated with five babies being presented by their parents. They included Kalylie Elizabeth, daughter of Brenda and Jim Gi n Maranda" Nicole, daughter of Karen an John Greidanus; Michelle Catherine, daughter of Helen and Ernie Lobb; Laura Natsuko, daughter of Brian and Linda Nakamura; Michael Benjamin, son of Karen and' Gordon Yeo. Assisting Rev. Bechtel at the service was Elder Alice Parker. The UCW of Holmesville United Church will meet on October 13. Ladies bring in your pennies. Communion in Holmesville United Church will be celebrated on October 11. On October 18 the Anniversary Service will be held in Hohnesville United Church at 11 a.m. Please note the change in Bazaar time for the Holmesville United Church to October 31, with starting time at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come and enjoy the good home baking, vegetables and tea tables. The Senior Quilters went for a day outing. A super time was had. The Enterprising Seniors met in the Goderich Township Community Centre with Edward Dunes in charge. Alice Porter gave the roll call and read the minute's of the last meeting. Marion Powell gave the card report. Discussion was held on the upcom- ing Fall rally to be held October 14 in Holmesville, sponsored by Enterprising Seniors. Registration to be at 12 noon and the meeting will be held at 1 p.m. The new regular meeting will be October 15. Cards were enjoyed and lunch and social time was held. The person who left their St. James' Deli Booth purchases at the Holmesville hall, may call Blanche Deeves at 482-9536. Beef show and sale For the past seven years, 4-H members from Huron and Bruce Counties have made their Thanksgiving Day 4-H Beef Show and Sale a growing tradition. This year over seventy young people will be showing and selling their 4-1-1 beef calves, up from the fifty-nine participants in 1986. Last year Dean Ribey sold his Grand Champion Calf to Tri -County Livestock for $1.33/lb. The 1987 sale will be held October 12th with the show at 10:30 a.m. and the sale at 1:00 p.m. sharp. Brussels Stockyards Limited is again providing the facilities for the sale. The success of the sale is due to the tremendous support the community gives to it. Everyone wins - the buyers soon have top quality beef in their freezers, and the 4-11 members have a few extra dollars in their pockets, and some enthusiasm for next year. while Sandy McQuillan joined in one selec- tion on the bagpipes. A .very good time was had by all! On Wednesday September 30 the school children were presented with samples of Lil Chimers Christmas ornaments which they will be selling to raise money for school activities. Wednesday was also the first hot dog day of the year with 'Mr. McQuillan making them extra good by barbecuing them for the staff and students. Also on Wednesday, the school children had the opportunity to receive the Sacra- ment of Reconciliation at the Church and ' on Friday, Grades 5-8 attended First Fri- day Mass. Friday morning Grades 1-4, along with teachers Mrs. Jackie -Simpson, Mrs. Barb Eedy and Mrs. Jo -Anne Bullen and several • parents travelled to the Wawanosh Conser- vation Area -where. they wenLon a. nature hike and participated in several games. The children got an unscheduled holiday Friday afternoon when they were sent home after lunch because of unsafe drink- ing water at the school.
