The G.D.C..I. Senior Vikings opened their
Huron -Perth season with a 68-3 trouncing
of the Central Huron .Redmen. The
Goderich girls took a 33-2 first quarter and
coasted to .the victory as they stressed.

The GDCI junior girls' basketball team defeated Central Huron here Wednesday in the
opening game of the Huron -Perth Conference schedule, 33-18.
Leslie Meyers and Kelly Wade led the Goderich girls with 10 points aoiece. Jackie
Banter had six points for the winners, Sheri Hord added three, Michelle Glenn had two
and Julie Pentland and Anne Marie Bedard each got one point.
Kathleen Verhoef was Central Huron's and the game's top scorer with 12 points.
' Coach Lynn Meyers' Vikings were down 6-0 early in the game and had their troubles
scoring, but their hard work and dedication gradually paid off and they Jed 1840 by
halftime.
The Vikings played at home Monday and travel today (Wednesday) to Mitchell.
The GDCI midget girls' basketball team also defeated Central Huron. The score was
63-19 and Nicole Miller was the top scorer tor tiodericn.
Association announces program
The Canadian Olympic Association's
Royal Bank Junior Olympics Program at-
tained another milestone today when it
was announced that the national program
had reached a participation total of six
million Canadian youngsters. The Royal
Bank Junior Olympics is an on-going
grassroots program aimed at school-age
children and has been sponsored by the
Royal Bank of Canada since its inception
in 1973.
As part of the celebration, the C.O.A.
randomly selected a 12 -year-old Saskat-
chewan youth to represent the six
millionth Junior Olympian. Tyson Wall
from Regina was flown to Toronto for a
weekend of fun and excitement. In Toron-
to, Tyson attended a launching of the
C.O.A.'s Olympic Resource „fit - and
educational kit being distributed to all
elementary schools in Canada to help
teachers instill the values and ideals of
Olympism. Dr. Roger .Jackson, President
of the C.O.A. and the Hon. Otto Jelinek,
Minister of State for Fitness and Amateur
Sport, presented Tyson with the first
Olympic Resource Kit entitled "Come
Togther The Olympics and You".
Royal Bank of Canada executive, .Jamie
Little, presented Tyson with Olympic
coins, a huge stuffed Leo the Lion mascot,
an Olympic pin set and a Junior Olympics
jacket, hat and t -shirt.
Also included in Tyson's September llth
weekend trip was a tour of Ontario Place,
the Ontario Science Centre, a Toronto Blue
Jays baseball game and dinner at the CN
Tower. His father, John Wall, accom-
panied Tyson.
