PUB -'1 LIQ a+° )'.LI LIC 8 OWNING .. 111 2 4 Library activities planned The third annual Ontario Library Week will be held October 19-25, 1987. The theme of this year's celebration of public libraries is "Your Card is the Key". A library card is the patron's key to access- ing the library's full range of services. In turn, the library is the key to a vast infor- mation network, a repository of books and materials that can spark a user's imagina- tion and provide inspiration, recreation or continuing education. In keeping with the theme, .libraries. across Ontario, including the Huron Coun- ty Public Library, will be launching, a membership drive to sign up new library members from Oct. 1-25: The library that signs up the most new members, in propor- tion to the size of its community, will be awarded the framed original art for this year's library week poster designed by Carmen-Dun-jko-Associates.The- competi- tion between libraries will be a friendly one, since all libraries that hold an effec- tive membership drive will be winders no matter who wi:is the prize. To add some incentive, the first 100 members of the Huron County Public Library, between October 1-25, will receive a card holder and key chain with their new library membership card. Membership in the Huron County Public Library is free to all County residents. Special activities will be held at a number .of branch libraries to celebrate Library Week. The Belgrave Branch will be holding an open house at its new loca- tion in the Women's Institute Hall on Saturday October 24 from 2-5 pm. Everyone is welcome. The Hensall Branch , will be hosting a free children's puppet show, "Puppet' Pals" with Marian Doucette on Thursday October -22 at 4:30 pm• A k_ the__ friendly, helpful, staff at your' local branch library for more information about Ontario Public Library Week. Auxiliary meeting well attended The first meeting for the fall season was wPll attended by members of the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Auxiliary. Several visitors and new members were welcomed. President Mrs. Wheeler paid special tribute to one of our members, Edna Pollock, who passed away this summer. A special donation was made to the Memorial Fund in her memory and a minute's silence was observed. Reports given by various conveners show- ed an active summer in the Gift Shop -and other areas connected with hospital work. Tickets for the draw to be held on Monday, October 19 are still available from hospital auxiliary members and will also be on sale at the mall. on Thanksgiving weekend. Prizes will -be on display in'Rivett's window. on The Square. Plans were made for the Friday November 27 bazaar and bake sale.
