A group of Michigan antique car buffs from Michigan, known as "Brass and Gas," brought
a touchof nostalgia to this area as they passed through Friday, while on a weekend tour of
Vintage vehicles Ontario. In all, vintage cars were parked outside the Benmiller in, while the owners stopped
for lunch there. Later, the group toured through Goderich. (photos by Patrick Raftis

Alt o1' these opportunities exist within the
Royal Air Cadet program but more than
just offering teens exposure to a more
regimented style of activity, it is the in-
tangibles that make the program and the
efforts of the volunteers, worthwhile.
"It is the only organization where boys
and girls can join something together dur-
ing the most iniportant age of their life, the
teen years, and work ' together," Chief
King explained. "They get involved in
community projects, they help the Rotary
Club with the paper drive and they are
visible at various town functions.
`Parents have told us that their children
" take care of the cadet uniform and start
picking up their other clothes at home. It
teaches them deportment, they develop
confidence and they develop their leader-
ship capabilities,", he said.
Constable Livesey added that the
regimentation and discipline of the
squadron has impacted well on the
youngsters: teaching them how to take
orders, develop themselves personally and
work as a unit.
The program is offered free of charge
and even the uniforms are given to the
cadets. The squadron relies on volunteer
help and Claus Breede, traininfficer,
Laurie Biggin, administrative officer,°Ken
MacLean, assistant training officer and
Mark Faye, civilian assistant, help out
with the program.
Chief King said the squadron could use
civilian help and any former air force per-
sonnel would: bewelcome guests and
speakers at the weekly sessions. Area of
expertise and topics could include
anything from aircraft maintenace. to
piloting and navigation.
The program is under the jurisdiction of
-the Department of National Defence and
the Air Cadet League of Canada. The only
requirement for membership is age.
Cadets must ° be 13 years of age by
December 31, 1987- to join this_year and
they are eligible to remain in the squadron
until they are 19.
There is no cost and all rations and
equipment are provided when .the
squadron participates in a . weekend
outing. What is asked of cadets is; L that
they keep their uniform clean and 2. that
they attend regularly.
