Mrs. Wilma Brawley moved from the village to Huron Haven trailer park on Saturday. Mr. Tom Haggit returned home from Clin- ton Public Hospital last week following surgery Recent vistors with Mrs. Grances Clark were Mr. and Mrs. Burrill Williams of Bow Island Alberta, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kienzle of Kettering, Ohio and Misses Jean Horiston and Jean Jamieson of Toronto. Mrs. Mary Blacker of Stratford visited . with Mrs.Lillian Leaterland for a few days recently. Gordon Sisley of Belville, Mrs. Lawrence Nesbitt of Port Perry and Mr. and Mrs. Stan McNall of Welland visited with Laura Phillips and Ellen Johnston the past week. Mrs. Henry Ferguson of Champion Alber- ta and Mr. Donald Mallory of Kirkcaldi Alberta cousins of Oliver's visited at the Anderson home and Mr. William Anderson of Newmarket visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson recently. Auburn Silver Tops Auburn Silver Tops held their first dinner of the Fall Season on Wednesday September 23. After dinner a short meeting was held with the new president Kay Lapp in the Chair. A minutes of silence was held for those seniors in the Auburn Community who had passed away in the past year. Plans were made to attend the District Rally on October 14 and to entertain Blyth Swinging Senoirs on October 23. Ethel Ball then show- ed pictures of her trip to Alaska this past summer. These were very interesting and enjoyed by all. The president thanked Ethel. It was planned to start the euchre parties in October. General Meeting of U.C.W. -=T-h-Gener:al-Meeting_._of_the-. Aurburn U.C.W. was held on Wednesday evening September 23. The devotional was on "Love" ,liven by Mrs. Maurice Bean and Mrs. Don Haines. The sermouette was given by Mrs. Haines, Offering was received and Mrs. Bean gave the offertory prayer. She closed the devotional with reading from the 3 Chapter Ecclesiastes and stating that it might be good for every one to readthat chapter and the preceding one. A play "Toys for playing not fighting" was shown by Mrs. Koss Dobie. It showed that there is an increase in criminal violence. Five of the top selling toys are one of aggression violence. It was thought a pro- voking play. Two excellent skits were then perfromed by Mrs. Jack Armstrong, Mrs. Barry Millian, Mrs. Jake Middlekamp and Mrs. Dana Bean. A discussion followed and the singing of -0 Lord of Life and Love and Power" closed the devotional part. Mrs. Peter Verbak opened the business with prayer. The convenors gave their reports. It was decided that new devotionals be pur- chased and that carpet be bought for the Nursery room. Mrs. Kryzanowski and Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer served a delicious lunch and a social half hour was enjoyed. • Knox United Church Service Knox United Church service • was con- ducted by Rev. Dave Snihur with organist Mrs. Gordon Gross. The service started with a Hymnsing and the children went to their Sunday School rooms. Call to Worship was read alternatively. Hymn "0 For a Thousand Tongues' to Sing" was sung. Prayer of Confession was read in unison followed by Announcements. Hymn "Saviour Teach Me Day By Day" was sung. Scripture reading was given by the minister followed by the Prayer Chorus. The Senior Choir sang the anthem "Seek and Ye Should' Find." The minister's sermon was entitled "John- The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved." The offering was received by Ken Ramsey and Murray Follison followed by Offeratory - Response:- The rminister• -pronoun od-the Benediction followed by the Benediction Response "Lord We Pray." Bible Study for adults will be held. at Rev Snihur's on Friday at 1:15. Next Sunday will be World Wide Communion•. Singer Jackie Rauentertains at Arthur Circle Auxiliary meeting The Arthur Circle Auxiliary meeting was held Sept. 21 in the church parlour..Presi- dent Joyce Garrick opened with a prayer and JoyceThorne and Hazel McCreath read their reports. _Soloist Jackie Rau delighted the group with her musical numbers, a piano 'solo ( Chanson Triste) and she sang Cherish and Swing Low Sweet Chariot. Lee McCallum;s group was in charge of devotions. Rev. Robert Johnson, interim minister at Knox, was introduced and Joyce "Garrick read Ephesians 2:4-10 prior to his message. He spoke on significant relationship groups in the church which should have in- dividuality, community, meaning and hope. He emphasized that we are only as effective as the groups are and should look for signifi- cant relationships in our lives through the church. "We give up if we don't have something to do," he said. He went on to say that new people touch base with a communi- ty of people and many will wait to get into a group. Mr. Johnston corrcluded say- ing, "Keep looking up." Ruth Skeoch thank- ed him for his inspiring and challenging talk. Marion Charters, Leona. Jermyn, Joan Perrot and Ruth Skeoch read poems and readings. Joyce conducted the business part of the - meeting over a cup of tea and sandwiches. She gave a report on Barbara Woodruff's trip to Russia recently. Barbara was a headquarters delegate and her talk was im- portant in that the mission study in 1988 is of Russia and her people. Joyce told the group that Russian young people are attending church out of curiosity and boredom and they enjoy folk music and bands. English is spoken freely in some areas by the youth. Other business included: a garage sale to be held Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. and also a fall rally will be held at Knox Church on Oct. 28.
