Call 482-5096 Corr'munit News Betty Hunter, executive director of The Lung Association Huron - Perth Counties, was at GDCI Monday afternoon giving presenta- tions on smoking and your lungs. She showed films, held discus- sions and demonstrations to the science classes concerning the ef- fects smoking has on the lungs. Ms. Hunter travels. throughout the counties giving presentations to students from kindergarten to Grade 13. (photo by Lou -Ann DeBruyn) September busy month at MacKay Centre September programs are well underway at MacKay Centre as we head into fall. We are pleased to see our members again after the summer vacation and wish a warm "welcome to all our new members, we look forward to seeing you in the months ahead. Our first card party was held on September 9. Marion Biggin and Eunice Wilson helped with the party. Prizes went to Alice Moss and Howard Currie for high scores in euchre and to Anna .Blundell and Dave Harman for high scores in 500. The door prize was won by Olive Brown. Ddris Hawthorne arranged a very in, teresting and entertaining program for the Variety Concert on September 23. Bev Brown, co-ordinator for Town and Country Homemakers and Horne Support Services spoke about the different services available in Huron County. Bev emphasized the need for home support services such as homecare, volunteer drivers, and meals on. wheels which help keep people in their own homes. Of course many of these programs are run by volunteers and anyone interested indonating some of their free time to help- ing others pre encouraged to contact Bev Brown. Doris thanked Be'v, for her infor- mative presentation and went on to in- troduce Jean Smith. Jean showed slides of her recent South Pacific Tour. Jean and her husband visited Hawaii, Figi,' New Zealand and Australia. The slides showed the many different regions such as cities, mountains, and forests and were highlighted by Jean's informative commentary. After the inter- mission Kathleen Buckley introduced Pat King. Mr. King is the Police Chief in Goderich and is originally from Dover, England. The audience was taken back to the good old days of the English Music Hall as Mr. King sang some well-known songs from that period, as well as reciting a couple of very funny monologues. Bea Sparling thanked everyone for their part in making it such a memorable night. Shuffleboard started again on September 28, anyone interested in being on the spare list for this season are welcome to putttheir names on the list. A crafts meeting was held on September 17 and the crafts group will be meeting every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at MacKay' Centre — new members welcome. The MacKay Choristers start off their fall season with a practice on Thursday, Oc- tober 1. A trip to Brantford has been ar- ranged for Monday, November 2.. This will include transportation, a show featuring the Scott Family Revue and the famous. Hawaiian Show from Pittsburg and supper on the way home at Woodstock. Program to be held at hospital for people with breathing problems Every breath can be a struggle for people whd suffer from emphysema, asthma or chronic bronchitis. The Better Breathing Program, sponsored by The Lung Associa- tion - Huron -Perth Counties, is designed to :help patients breathe better and more easi- ly, to help them develop lifestyles that ac- comodate their disease, and to help them live as fully and'as pleasurably as ,they can.
