Tony Bedard° captured low gross on Men's Nite with Lee Fry taking low net for the day. First flight was won by Ken Straughen and low net was carded by Stan Connelly. Paul Corriveau and Harvey Liv- ingston took second flight respectively. Third flight was won by Ken Engelstad and low net - by Geo 'Williams. The "mystery night" winner was Les. Thompson. The men braved the rain shower that we had on Saturday for their final play off day. The results of this special event will be posted on Tuesday September 29 when the "Men's Nite",will be hosted to an even- ing of dinner, trophies, and prizes. If you have not signed up for this event - do so now! Also, mark your calendar for the "Left Handers" Challenge which is held each year at the Sunset ,on Oct. 12th ( Thanksgiving Monday 1. Member's and guests are invited to join. Reminder to the ladies - the social chair- man has planned a fun filled evening on —"11urgday September -24. Golf if you like - Roz Elliott has returned to Kings' Col- lege for her third year, Lisa Engelstad to Guelph for her second year, as well as Lisa Baechler to Kings for her second year. Christine Stapleton has gone north to Sud- bury to continue on for her second year. Andrew Cox has entered Fanshawe for his first year and Mike Beange has continued onrat GDCI. Good luck to the Sunset Staff in their continued education. Hugh Hodges, the only lifetime member of the W.O.A.A., presents team captain Mike Duckworth with the W.O.A.A. Bantam Boys Major A trophy. (photo by Ted Spooner) Dave Cornish wins men's championship at Maitland The fact that it poured on Saturday mor- ning, might have dampened the golfers 'physically, but it did not dampen their spirits! A full complement ofboth ladies and gentlemen turned out for Champion- ship Day and the sun, absent from the mor- ning flights, deigned to come out in the afternoon and we finished the day in a burst of beautiful autumn weather. In the Men's Section Dave Cornish edged out "Q" Egener for the Men's Champion- ship. B flight was won by Jack Gould, with Fred Looker runner-up. Mike Sully cap- tured. C flight with John Empson a close second. In the Trophy Section, Bill Hanly won out over Dave Almasi for the Papernick Trophy. The two -ball match was taken by Jack Hinton and Bob McDougall with Don MacEwan and Jack Hoffmeyer as runners-up. The Seniors trophy 'was won by, Bill Hanly, while Fred Looker came in a close second. The Ron Menzies Trophy went to Jack Hinton, while Ralph Neville took second spot. The Kane Trophy for the most improved golfer was taken by that reformed fisherman, Bill King. Men's night champion was John Kane, followed by Dave Cornish, Gerald Morgan and John Empson, and John Empson also set his second shot on No. 5 closest to the hole. The ladies' trophies have been played for over the whole summer and the win- ners were honoured Saturday. Bev Jeffrey won out over Verna Kane in the Club .hampionship, and Verna Kane took the Rose Bowl, winning out over Jean Hanly. Bev also won the Maitland Trophy with Jean . Hanly a mere couple of strokes behind. Those three names do keep cropp- ing up. The Mrs. George Bruce Trophy for the lady golfer who has reduced her handi cap most during the season went to Joyce Garrick, who brought her handicap down 8.7%. In the Two -Ball Tournament the team of Maxine Martin and Lois McGill won out over Verna Kane and Bertha McGee. For the day's play first flight was won by Verna Kane, followed by Bev Jeffery and Marie Huff. Marie Huff drop- ped her ball closest to the pin on number one, while the longest drive went to Joyce Garrick. The lucky person holding the winning ticket on a set of golf clubs and bag was Ralph Neville. A fitting way to close off the season, Ralph. Don't forget that so long as the weather stays salubrious ( don't get to use that word much) golfing will continue!
