The Goderich Signal-Star, 1987-09-09, Page 9Famil . ' ews Barry Whetstone dies in local hospit WILLIAM BARRY WHETSTONE William Barry Whetstone, of Goderich, died at Alexandra Marine and General. Hospital on Saturday, September 5 at the age of 50. Born in London on December 4, 1936, he was the son of L.O. Whetstone and the former Helen Brethour. He. was a sales clerk at Canadian Tire in Goderich and a member of North Street United Church. Surviving besides his father, L.O. 1 Nip 1 Whetstone of Goderich, are: his wife, the former Marie Lyddiatt; daughter Marlene of Vancouver, B.C.; daughter Joanne of Willowdale, Ont.; brother Vic and his wife Bev Whetstone of Goderich; and, one grand - chile, Lindsay. The funeral service was conducted Mon- day, September 7' at the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home with Rev. Robert 0. Ball, of North Street United Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Doug Cruickshank, Gary Ross, Ron Whetstone, Rick Whetstone, Dan Whetstone and George Sager. Interment at Maitland Cemetery. EDMUND DAVID JEFFREY Mr. Edmund David (Tedi Jeffrey, of Goderich, died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon- don, on Sunday, August 30 at the age of 61. Born in Stanley Township, he was the son of the late Leon Remi Jeffrey and the former Pauline Plante. He was a farmer in Hay Township until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. Lovingly remembered by Madge Oesch of Goderich and David and Linda Oesch of Richmond Hill. Surviving are two sisters, Blanche Bechard of Zurich and Ulene (Mrs. Napoleon Ducharme) of London; and, two brothers, Lloyd of Windsor and Clemence of Zurich. He was predeceased by one brother Leonard. The funeral service was held at the ,Mc- Callum and Palla Funeral Home on Wednes- BLT . _I . I day, September 2 with Rev. T. McNamara of St. Peter's church officiating. Pallbearers were Phil Jeffrey, Ken Jef- frey, Ray Ducharme, Bill Fiscus, Harold Erb and Tony Maillett. Interment in St. Boniface Ceinetery, Zurich. DOROTHY GERTRUDE WALZ Mrs. Dorothy Gertrude Walz, of Grand Bend, died at Ottawa Civic Hospital on Mon- day, September 1 at the age of 71. Born in Toronto on September 25, 1915, she was the daughter of the late William Walter - Barlow and the former Mary Mitchell. She was a housewife and member of the United Church. Surviving are her husband, Fred Donald Walz; one son William and his wife Karen of Ottawa; sister Nonie (Mrs. Charles Stowe) of Goderich; brother William Barlow of Goderich; sister Edith Barlow of Goderich; and two grandchildren, Heather and Andrew. The funeral service was at the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home on Friday, September 4 with Rev. Robert Ball of North Street United Church officiating. Interment in Woodland Crematorium. MARY LEE (JAMES) PRESSEAU Mary Lee (James) Presseau, of Goderich, died at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Thursday, September 3 at the age of 46. Born in Ridgetown on March 2, 1941, she was the daughter of Robert Hollenbeck and Mary E. McQuarrie. Mrs. Presseau was a homemaker and member of the Salvation Army. Surviving besides her parents, Robert and Mary Hollenbeck of Goderich, are: her hus- band, Marty Presseau of Goderich, two daughters, Angela James and Kari James of Goderich, daughters from her first mar- riage to Gurnos James; two brothers, William Hollenbeck and family of Goderich, and Robert Hollenbeck and family of Wingham. She was predeceased by her grandfather Jack Hollenbeck, grandmother Theresa Hollenbeck, uncle Harry Hollenbeck, and grandfather William McQuarrie. The funeral service was held at the Mc- Callum and Palla Funeral Home with. Cap- tain Walter Clarke of the Salvation Army officiating. Pallbearers were Fred Pottle, Doug St. Louis, Doug Dickson, Larry Watson, Earl 'Hoy and Pierre Chagnon. Interment in Maitland Cemetery. Kathi Urbasik New minister at United Church North Street United Church welcomes this week a new associate minister joining Rev. Robert Ball on the church staff. Kathi Urbasik, native of Ontario, is a graduate of McMaster University in Pyschology and Emmanuel College, Toron- to School of Theology. She has served as minister of a four point rural charge in New Brunswick during the past three years, and has worked extensive- ly with children and youth, leading in weekend retreats, vacation Bible schools, and music and drama presentations. Born on April 26, 1899, he was an engineer and foreman until his retirement. He was also a member of the United Church of Canada. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Smith; son George W. Videan Jr. of Detroit; daughter Viola A. Baughman of Redford Township, Michigan; daughter Barbara Heiss of Ann Arbour, Michigan; and, daughter Audrey Burt of Interlochen, Michigan; sister-in-law Elsie (Mrs. Earl Elliott) of Goderich; and 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The funeral service was held at the Mc- Callum and Palla Funeral Home on Satur- day, September 5 with Rev. Bruce Tombs of Victoria Street United Church officiating. Pallbearers were Larry Burt, Kenneth Burt, -Kevin Burt, George Baughman, Roger Baughman and Tim Whitefoot. Interment at Maitland Cemetery. We would like to thank family, relatives and friends for attending Open House for our 50th Anniversary.
