Playoff positi ns yet to be
determined in men's slow pitch
By Brewster
As we head down tin back stretch of the-4-
first
tre91d4-first round of GMSL play-offs, many ques-
tions remain unanswered. The battles cen-
tre mainly around the last play-off posi-
tions. Lets have a look at the scoreboard to
see where we stand.
Ideal Supply remains on top of A with
three big wins this week. They defeated
the Coyotes 10-3, crushed Boyes Transport
31-7 and pounded Thruway Muffler 15-2.
They are hot and playing as well as they
ever had. They are still the team to beat
and I don't see anyone with the fire power
to do it.
Canadian Tire continues to surprise op-
ponents as they came up with an important
11-8 victory over Thruway who had earlier
edged Chrysler by an 8-6 margin. Port
Albert Bulldogs defeated Boyes 9-4 while
Chrysler edged Sunys 8-6 in the final A
game.
It now appears,"though WA certain, that
Ideal Supply, Canadian Tire and Port
Albert will advance. The battle is between
Chryslers, Boyes and Coyotes for the 4th
spot. Chrysler has the slight edge with a
game in hand and already having defeated
the Coyotes. Monday's game between
Chrysler and Boyes could decide it. They
are all in a "must win" situation. What
makes it exciting is that only one will! Who
will it be?
In B division, Suncoast Restaurant and
Tavern continued their march towards the
title with victories of 13-8 over the
Elevators and 7-6 over Home Hardware.
To keep the race alive, Parkhouse Raiders
edged Dearborn by an $-4 margin.
-rarlrlrriuse anat Sti.Ki ast meet head to
head on S with the winner almost
guaranteed first place.
The Chiefs edged Lakeland 9-7 but lost to
Dearborn 15-9 to spoil their bid for a first
place finish. The 'Elevators defeated Sifto
15-7 to stay alive in the race with Dearborn
and Home Hardware for the final play-off
position. Dearborn has the edge but must
win their final game to be certain. Home
Hardware and Elevators must both win
their last two—which could be tough since
they play each other.
C division saw the battle of the
undefeated as Lakeview Ranchers scored
3 in the seventh to steal a 5-4 win over
Chisolm TV. The Gators won their first
game of the year with a solid 15-11 score
over Shanahans. They did this with only 9
players—perhaps they have found the
secret!
Murphys Law continues to impress with
an 18-11 win over Little Bowl, who earlier
had blasted the Gators 23-8. Local 1863 re-
mained alive with a crucial 9-6 win over
the slumping BBs.
Little Bowl, Local and Murphys thus re-
main in a dogfight for the last two spots.
Games between them should decide, it with
Murphys holding the advantage at
present. •
This is play-offs and regardless of the
division, the races are tight and the com-
petition keen. Only Ideal Supply is
guaranteed of their finish—that. being Al!
With only a week to go, the battles
intensify.
Round two, a best 2 of 3 elimination
ound featuring teams one vs four and two
vs three is set to begin on Thursday
September 10. Remember that the umpir-
ing assignments are based on your new
standing at the completion of round 1 ac-
tion. Good luck to all and we'll catch you
next week with "almost the final
standings."
