program will be starting this fall for the
Mentally Handicapped Youth and Adults.
Be a friend to a special person. Interested
parents and volunteers are asked to attend
an Information Meeting Wednesday,
September 2, at 8 pm at Victoria Public
School Auditorium in Goderich. The
speaker will be Gwen Laidlaw, present
Director of Wingham Friendship Group
and a film "We Are The Church

SHOW YOUR QUILT - The Huron County
Pioneer Museum invites you to display your
quilt in its thirs annual quilt show to be held
at The Livery, South Street, Goderich, from
August 22 through September 7, 1987. The
quilts will be on display daily from 1 to 5
p.m. and Friday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m.
Deadline for submissions of quilts at the
museum is August 17. Further information

SEPTEMBER 1 -25 -the Huron Historic Jail
is having its Third Annual Prison Art Ex-
hibition courtesy of the Prison Arts Founda-
tion of Canada. This exhibit features all new

The Ontario Arts Council announced to-
day that 120 students worked in the arts this
summer through the Ministry of Skills
Development's employment program, Ex-
perience '87.
The Experience Program provides sum-
mer jobs for secondary and post -secondary
students between the age of 15 and 24 to
work in Ontario Governmen'ministries and
associated agencies.
The Ontario Arts Council, through the
Ministry of Citizenship. and Culture, offers
an arts segment to the program. The OAC
places students with professional Ontario
artists or arts organizations in a technical,
performance, creative, or administrative
capacity. These young people work in a
variety of artiostic fields that include: arts
education; community arts development;
dance; film, photography, video; Franco-
Ontarian cultural affairs; literature;
music; theatre; touring; and visual arts.
This is the 12th year the OAC has par-
ticipated in the Experience program.
The Ontario Arts Council received a grant
of $178,200 to co-ordinate and implement this
program. With these funds the OAC pays for
75% of the students' wages and benefits
while the sponsoring artist or arts organiza-
tion pays the balance.
The Ontario Arts Council is an agency of
the Ontario Government funded through the
Ministry of Citizenship and Culture, and
provides grants to Ontario -based profes-
sional artists and arts organizations.
4-H picnic set
for Seaforth
Are you a former 4-H leader or member?
Are you presently involved in the 4-H pro-
gram as a leader or member? If you can
answer yes to.either of these questions, we
would like to remind you•about the 4-H pic-
nic on August 30th, 1987.
The picnic will be held at the Seaforth
Lion's Park (across from the . Seaforth
Hospital) beginning at 2 p.M. The ball
diamonds and swimming pool are also
available for use. Please bring your own
lawn chairs. Supper will be potluck, but
please bring yourown plates and utensils.
Beverages for supper will be provided by
the Huron County Youth•Council.
We hope to see you at this special event
and take the opportunity to meet with
former leaders and member's as well as
those presently involved in the 4-H program.
