The Goderich lifeguardshave had a busy summer patrolling the Town Beach area but they
found a few minutes recently, before going on duty, for a little fun. On duty eight hours a
day (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), seven days a week, the lifeguards work from June to August 31. This
year's lifeguard contingent includes: from the top of the pyramid, Judy Sherratt (super-

Scholarship awards
announced for school year
The AVM J.A. Sully and Legion Branch
109 (Lancaster) scholarship awards com-
mittee announced this week that this year
there were three university students, who
were each recipients of a $500 scholarship
from the Sully Branch 109 scholarship
fund.
These former Goderich Collegiate
students are Edward Turton, who is study-
ing Medicine at the' University of Western
Ontario; David Weaver, who is pursuing a
degree in Optometry at the University of
Waterloo; and Brian Treble, who will com-
mence his Masters degree in Honours
Geography (Urban Development) at the
University of Waterloo. Each of these
students had an outstanding academic
record last year. This year this scholar-
ship attracted nine applicants.
Any former Goderich Collegiate student,
not necessarily related to a war veteran,
may apply for this scholarship if they have
completed at least one academic year at a
Canadian University in one Engineering,
Medicine or Dentistry. Also, any student
who has completed two years towards an
Honours degree in any subject is eligible to
apply for this scholarship. Awards are bas-
ed on high academic standing.
The AVM J.A. Sully Legion Branch 109
scholarship is administered by a commit-
tee consisting of representatives from both
the Sully Foundation and Legion Branch
109.
This scholarship was made possible
when Bruce Sully, of the Sully Foundation
donated $10,000 to Legion Branch 109 to be
held in trust. The annual interest on this
donation is used to finance this
scholarship.
This donation was given to Branch 109
when the Branch transferred its Lancaster
bomber, once on display in front of the en-
trance to Sky Harbour Airport to the
Warplane Heritage Foundation at Mount
Hope airport near Hamilton. Warplane
Heritage has a collection of World War II
aircraft and is presently putting the Lan-
caster back in flying condition.
Each year in April the Branch adver-
tises for applicants for this scholarship
which is awarded by August 15 of each
year. Application formas are available
from the Branch secretary or by contac-
ting the guidance office of the Goderich
Collegiate.

The Agricrew and Junior Agriculturalist
programs that have been working out of
Huron County come to an end on August 21.
Many people throughout the county have
been involved with these agricultural pro-
jects, whether through being a host farm
family for a junior agriculturalist or hiring
agricrew. This year has been very suc-
cessful, for the agricrew in particular, as
they were booked up solidly throughout the
summer.
Four crews of four people were in opera-
tion for agricrew. Approximately 25 youths
participated in the program. As a result, 65
farmers were serviced. For next year, as a
reminder, if you have a date in mind, phone
in early. This way, you are assurred of hav-
ing an agricrew work for you on your farm.
There were 10 junior agriculturalists in
total that decided to "try out" a summer
agriculturally in Huron County. They were
exposed to every aspect of farm life in order
to broaden their knowledge • of the
agricultural industry. They will be return-
ing home to the city on August 21 as well.
Both programs will be in operation again
next year. In order to have a first round
choice of a junior agriculturalist, host farm •
families should apply early. Likewise,
agricrew bookings go fast, so next year,
book early and avoid disappointment.
Agricrew and junior agriculturalist ap-
plicants should apply in mid-April.
