STRATFORD - The best of Shakespeare, a
celebration of T. S. Eliot's centenary and ex-
citing musical theatre will all be part of the
Stratford Festival's 1988 season. At a
meeting in Stratford of the Festival's full
Board of Governors, Artistic Director John
Neville announcl his playbill for the
Festival and Avon Theatres in 1988.
In the Festival Theatre, the season will
open with Shakespeare's Richard 1II. The
musical will be either My Fair Lady or The
Man of La Mancha and the third production
of Opening Week in the Festival Theatre will
be The Three Musketeers, Alexandre
Dumas' swashbuckling classic. The late
opener in the Festival Theatre will be The
Taming of the Shrew.
In the Avon Theatre, the season will begin
with two Shakespearen comedies, All's Well
Pig Tales offers
There is now an opportunity for parents
to purchase quality children's books at an
inexpensive price.
Pig Tales is a small independent
children's book company with a selection
of books that are for children from birth to
12 years of age. Pig stands for Parents In-
volved in Growth.
According to area consultant Joanne
Drennan, Pig Tales vary from other
children's books because of their inexpen-
sive prices, ranging from 99 cents to $10,
and because they are sold in ;a home en-
vironment. Pig Tales books are selected
for their content, educational value, and
interest to particular age levels by an On-
tario certified teacher.

That Ends Well and The Two Gentlemen of
Verona. With 19$8 marking the centennial of
T. S. Eliot's birth, the Festival is proud to
announce production of his Murder in the
Cathedral as the third play of Opening Week
in the Avon Theatre.
Jean Anouilh's The Waltz of the Toreadors
which opens January 10 for a six-week run
at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre will
join the Avon Theatre repertoire in mid-
season. Directed by John Neville, it will
feature William Hutt as General St. Pe. The
final production at the Avon Theatre will be
the hit musical, Irma La, Douce.
"I am excited about our playbill for next
year," Artistic Director John Neville said
recently. "With Murder in the Cathedral, we
pay tribute to T. S. Eliot, one of the true
giants of English literature. I have reserved
exclusive production rights to this play for
the past two years for precisely that reason.
"Also, with our current season, we com-
plete the first 35 years of Stratford Festival
history. In 1988, we will begin our second 35
years with Richard III and All's Well That
Ends Well, the two Shakespearean plays
that, in 1953, launched this remarkable
enterprise that is the Stratford Festival."
Information on the 1988 Young Company
season at the Third Stage is still to be an-
nounced as are casting and production
details for the Festival and Avon Theatres.
Opening eight r the 1988 Stratford Festival
season will be ay 30 with opening week
running throughJune 4.
quality children's bo.ks
Pig Tales was conceived by Carol
Meredith, a parent and former teacher,
who was concerned about the high price of
children's books. She personally selects
first quality books from publishers "end of
the lines" or "over -runs." Because the
books aren't available in sufficient quanti-
ty for publishers to distribute profitably,
she can purchase books at a reduced rate
and sell them at an affordable price. These
books are sold by people like Drennan,
Goderich area's consultant. Currently,
there are 50 people in the organization.
By hosting a home party, the hostess is
allowed to choose one book for free and
receives a discount on her other pur-
chases. Organizations such as nursery

schools and sororities can .use Pig Tales
for fund raising and receive a percentage
of the sales in cash or as a discount on
books.
Drennan became a consultant by wat-
ching "Be My Guest" on Channel 13 where
viewers had a chance to purchase Pig
Tales books. She ordered books for her
child and the delivery came with a
brochure asking if she was interested in
being a consultant for this area.
"I was impressed with the quality and I
took it on as a hobby," she said, adding
that she is the only consultant in this area.

or seeing Drennan's display of books, you
can call her at 482-7584.
