Don't forget it. There'll be some-'
thing doing in Canada after this war
is over and the men come back.
Homes and employment must be had
for them. Not only so, but the trade
that has been Germany's will be de-
veloped to some extent in .Caneda.
Huron. Exeter should be two words
so well known that prospective home -
seekers and investor would stop and
,give )hem more than parsing non.
sideration.
The flax industry as been erre 'i'
ised sonic eonsideratiun at the hands
of the Dominien , overnment. This is.
an industry that well Haight be en-
couraged ain.d properly .developed
would moan n -boon to nva:steru On-
tario as a great dealof flax is grown
in this section. With n ;stance from
the government would come textile
factories. The days w.ere'when there
avast more flax grown .around Exeter
than at present b.ut ,given a helping
hand the industry would no •doubt
;make ;good. The editor well rrrrnerrt-
bers when he pelted flax .at 25e a
day; ate a cold lunch in the fence
corner and took a .bath above the
dam at night..
For years the assessed vanue
the property in Exeter has been low
and the tax rate a little high. This
year the asseet inents are .being boost-
ed- There would be little or' no ,com-
plaint if the citizens knew ,jurat how-
they
cowthey stood 'comparatively. There
should be on secrecy about the roll
and as soon as it passes intto the
clerk's hands the citizens have the
right to inspect the same. At the,
same time would it not be fair and
in the interest of all to have the :'as-
sessment mil printed. If there ina
one thing more than another thee the
citizens aught to know and have the
right to know in connection with the
municipality's affairs. it is their allot-
ment of the assessment_ In other•
places the roll is printed. Why trot.
in Exeter. We do not suggest that
it be done every year, but should be
at least every few years.. With the
boost: in the assessment this year we
believe the citizens would appreciate
e copy of the roll.
