Peewee team wins three straight
When the Goderich Legion Peewee
baseball team loses a game they get mad
and even.
After Clinton squeezed out a close 4-3 win
in Goderich on June 15, Goderich pounded
their next opponents. They beat Seaforth
20-1 on the road, smashed Listocirel 17-2 at
home and doubled St. Mary's 12-6 at home.
In the St. Marys game, June 24, three
straight singles in the first inning by Chad
Papple, Andrew Scott and John Wain and a
triple by Jason Volland scored five runs to
erase a early St. Mary's lead.
St. Mary's rallied for four runs in the
fourth to take the lead 6-5 but Goderich pit-
cher .Jason Volland shut them down the
rest of the way.
Two walks in the fifth, a hit batsman, a
single by Scott andra Paul Wheeler triple,
scored four more Goderich runs to make
the score 9-6. Andrew McLarty hit a dou-
ble and Sam Hosack added a single late in
the game to round out the scoring. "
Listowel pitching allowed 11 walks as
Goderich built a 4-1 lead and coasted to a
17-2 win. Goderich managed only seven
sirfgles and a McLarty double but was
more than enough to score the free passes.
Goderich .l tmmered out 17 hits and
Seaforth watched a hitting exhibition as
Goderich beat Seaforth 20-1 at Seaforth
June 16..
Goderich pitcher Todd Papple struck out
nine and Hosack had three hits including a
double in the rout. Wain was the only
Goderich player who did not score a run
and three players, McLarty, Hosack and
Papple, scored four times.
A Papple double in the first inning of the
Clinton game scored Wain, who had doubl-
ed and a Scott single .scored Papple as
Goderich built a 2-01ead.
However, it was all Clinton until the final
inning and they led 4-2.
In the seventh Papple and Hosack singl-
ed to score a run and bring Goderich to
within one. That is when Clinton pitching
got tough and Trevor Bassinett and Greg
McLarty struck ontto end the game.
