BY JASON CAMERON
BROOKSIDE PUBLIC SCHOOL
I'm not sure whether this is a beginning
or an end..It is the end ofspublic school, but
a new -beginning at high school.
A lot of things have happened in the past
nine years. Most of us have spent them all
• here. There have been fights and friend-
ships, lectures and boredom, but through
all of •this, we have. survived.
Mr. Tremeer, teachers, parents and
friends, you know this is supposed,to be a
real happy evening but there is a touch of
sadness because thio will be the last time
all of us will be together here at Brookside.
We have shared a learning experience
from the basics of coloring and counting in
kindergarten to the intergers and latitudes
of grade 8.
One can never forget one's first public
speaking try — the faces of your friends
suddenly turn to "green-eyed" monsters,
or so it seemed at the time — then it's two
minutes later and you realize that you are
now one of the monsters and it wasn't so.
bad after all.
Where else would we be able to perform
our acting skills except on this very stage.
It's a lot easier to say "Hi, I'm Jason
Cameron" tonight than it was at my first
Christmas concert.
We've been = taught music, props,
lighting, sound systems and every facet of
production, all of it part of our complete
education and all of it made fun.
Probably the most important part of our
education here has been the interaction
with our teachers and friends. Some of us
have been together since kindergarten,

some grade one and others have joined as
we progressed, but each of us is as impor-
tant to our class as the other.
Of the friends we have now, some will re-
main forever but there will be some who
drift apart. We have been important to
each other. Who else but a close friend
would whisper the right answer to you
when caught off guard by an unexpected
question while reading the latest love note
of just day dreaming; who else would
share their secrets and gossip or even your
pop \with or without wiping the can.
Although there were times when we felt
left out or alone, it was not long before we
realized that we have real awesome
friends that we can count on.
Others we could count on were our
teachers. They have always been there to
give us guidance, help and encouragement
we needed although not always delivered
in the manner which we would have
chosen. Hard work, hated homework,
book reports, science fair projects, history
essays, french tests, the dreaded com-
pulsary speech, have -all been a part of our'
learning experience; thank goodness we
had music, art and phys-ed to break the
monotony and ease the pain.
- Thank -you to all of our teachers for "tor-
turing", uh teaching, us sp well. And what
would we. have done without our parents
who haVe studied countless french
vocabulary tests,' done math homework
and science lair projects and written
numerous speeches. Thanks mom!
As we venture into high school we will
carry with us the respect for our teachers,
our school, our friends and ourselves that
has been taught here at Brookside. We
thank you for this. As we choose our
avenues in life we will create a new begin-
ning for ourselves. As yet our futures are
still dreams. In kindergarten we dream of .
grade 8. Now we dream of grade 9, then an
and on. Each one leads to another as we
grow. I wish to leave behindrthe message
in a poem called "Follow your dream":
Follow your dream
wherever it leads —
Don't be distracted
by less worthy needs ...
Shelter it, nourish it,
help it to grow —
Let your heart hold it
down deep
where dreams go.
