Time to look
ahead to new
stage .of life
BY JENNIFER TYNDALL
HOLMESVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOL
Nineyears have come and gone but it is
time to move on.
,Mr. Kane, teachers, ladies and
gentlemen, fellow classmates: Life is full
of changes and although often difficult to
accept, changes indeed are inevitable. 'As
a caterpillar blossoms into a butterfly, we
too must go forth with anticipatidn into the
unknown.
We leave behind our .years at public
school with one special thing to hold on to – _
our memories. We have the power of stor-
ing things in -our minds and bringing them
back when needed.
As a minister once said, . "God gave us
memories that we might have roses`. m
December." .
My first day of kindergarten just seems.
like yesterday, with mom fussing over me
and my fear of what that day would bring,
but did make it and I couldn't quit talking
about it at supper that night. Many en-
- joyable years followed with special days
and special friends. .
Cowboy flay in Grade 3, was one of my
favororites. This was when all of the
students dressed up as cowboys and
cowgirls. Our teacher cooked us weiners
and beans for lunch and all day long we
played rodeo games.
We were also lucky enough to go swimm-
ing regularly in Grade 4.
The most frightening experience I can
recall occurred when our class -went to the
Hullett Conservation Area to plant trees.
My classmates found out that I was afraid
of snakes and to my dismay they decided
to put them around my neck, but by the
end of the day I was holding snakes too.
Last year our students' council invented
clash day. The entire school dressed up in
clothes that didn't match. Three winners
were chosen. I was happy to be chosen one
of the lucky three. Our prize was a free

lunch on hot dog day.
-The funniest incident I can remember
was going to Camp Sylvan in Grade 7. My
group got lost on the hike. Forgive me for
sounding prejudiced but I did try telling
the boys which way to get back. They
refused to listen to a girl and -as a result,
we returned —LAST.
Being the graduation class this year, we
got together for a party at Christmas. It
was a chance for all of us to have some fun
outside of school. We watched movies,
danced and even played charades for
almost two hours.
When looking ahead to high school, a bit
of hard reality sets in. No longer are we to

be the Head Honcho, now we will be star-
-ting at the bottom – again. .
Some of our friends will be going to dif-
ferent high schools. That support we have
counted ton for nine years § suddenly pull-
ed out from underneath us, but this is when
we dig .deep within •ourselves and
remember back to that first day of
kindergarten. For there is no doubt that
this new phase in our lives will bring us
just as many treasured moments.
We know, that we shall always be
thankful for the dedication of the teachers
and the companionship of our fellow
classmates. These memories will be in our
hearts forever"
