I think of Goderich my second home now, and, even though I' looking forward to going home to Perth, I'm going to find it very hard to leave this gorgeous place and all my friends here. I'm especially going ' to miss the kids I've taught here this year - my crazy grade 3 class from the first two terms, ' and my new little grade 1-2 monsters from this term! Love, Jenni Aussie Rankin March of Dimes Ability Fund begins Jan. 1 The Ability Fund, the major fundraising campaign of the untario tvlarcn.0I untaca, runs from January 1 to February 15.Thousands of volunteers across the pro- vince will raise over $400,000 to contribute towards the campaign goal of $1.16 million. Honorary campaign chairpersdh is the Honourable Paul Martin. In addition to the appeals made by the volunteers, funds will be raised through mail campaigns; coin boxes; and a spec- tacular black -tie fundraising event, the Celebrity Gourmet Gala II in Toronto, February 28. This annual campaign raises over half of the year's fundraising goal for the Ontario March of Dimes. The funds go towards assisting physically disabled adults through services such as vocational rehabilitation, providing aids to increase independence, community services, residential camps, and information for people experiencing the late effects of polio. When you receive a request to support the Ontario March of Dimes please give as 'generously as you are able. Pries awarded in . ministry essay contest This is the eighth year for the'Ministry of Natural Resources Wingham District Essay Contest. The. winning essays for 1986 have been selected and the awards presented. For the fifth year in a row, Blyth Public School was the best overall school submit- ting essays. The best essay was written by John Koch from Sprucedale Public School in Shakespeare. 'The first runner up, and part of the winning school team from Blyth, was Tabatha Montgomery. The second runner up was Melanie Knox from Hullett Central Public School. All of these students travelled to Toronto on December 16 to have their awards presented by the Hon. Vincent G. Kerrio, Minister of Natural Resources. "Judging from the great essays you have written on the theme 'The Importance of Fish as a Resource', I think Ontario is in pretty good hands," Kerrio said. "Keep thinking about the future. Keep entering contests - like the Wingham District Annual Essay Contest - where there is a chance to write about these subjects," Kerrio continued, "because there is still a lot of work to do and its going to be your job to do it." After the presentation ceremonies, the students, accompanied by. In ad•'ion to the awards presented to the school athe individual essay winners, each student will receive a free two to three- hour charter boat fishing trip next spring courtesy of Sam Argyle, a charter boat operator from.Goderich. As Kerrio put it, in taking time ,to make the presentations personally to these children, "People have begun to think more about the,future of fishing in Ontario. They realize we have to work hard to keep our lakes and rivers full of fish for everyone to enjoy now and in the future."
