The Christmas Bureau, fueled by the efforts of several volunteers
and service groups will help more than 65 families and 150 children
to enjoy Christmas this year. Food, clothing and toys were collected
by various church and service groups and donated by individuals to
help needy families in Huron County. The Bureau is being co- -
ordinated by the Goderich Lioness Club and its members. Yvonne

Use of monitoring system discussed by PUC
Public Utilities Commission (PUC)
manager Evert Middel will be meeting
with the Goderich police commission to-
day to discuss the possibility of the PUC
being included in the police 'department's
monitoring system.
At the commission's November meeting,
the committee was made aware of the
eventual necessity of installing an alarm
system during the automation of the
Ministry of Environment Filtration Plant
at St. Christopher's Beach.
The alarm system, which would monitor
the water levels in the reservoir, would act
as a replacement for man hours by aler-
ting a dispatch system should water levels
fall and need to corrected manually.
Middel will be making an official presen-
tation to Police Chief Patrick King and the
members of" the police commission with
regard to joining their monitoring system.
The system is currently used by five
municipal police forces and one fire
department. The cost of the system for the
police departments is determined on a per
capita basis, Mayor Eileen Palmer told
PUC commissioners. She added that the
fire department's use of the system was a
pilot project for which the cost was $2,000.
This cost is currently under review since
the fire department would like to continue
using the system.
Mayor Palmer told commissioners that
the alarm system currently was not being
used to its full capacity.
The commissioners noted that if use of
the alarm system was made available to
the PUC, it would be beneficial to all
groups involved since it could defray their
costs.

Goderich PUC to host 1987 MEA meeting
The Goderich PUC will be the host utility
for the 1987 Municipal Electrical Associa-
tion (MEA) Annual Meeting to be held in
Goderich during the fall of 1987.
During the November meeting, the
Goderich PUC established a local arrange-
ment committee to work with the MEA in

The addition of numerous Christmas
lights and displays at Court House. Park
are causing a few mindr problems for the
PUC and manager Evert Middel hopes to
rectify the problems by next year.
Although the Christmas display "looks
great", the PUC had to cut down on the
display .a little , because the Festival of
Lights was blowing fuses, Middel told PUC
commissioners at last week's meeting.o
The feeder system at the park is all
underground but additions may be
necessary if Christmas lights and displays
are added each year.
The system which supplies the power for
the lights in the park is all underground so
Middel decided to visit other utilities who
have similiar Christmas displays to see
their supply systems.
Underground supply systems also act as
a precaution against vandalism. Middel
noted that on Nov. 28 the Christmas lights
were finished being put up by 5 P.m. and by
7:30 p.m. that same night, four extension
• cords had been stolen. .
In London, Middel found that the Vic-
toria Park display is all above ground. On
Tuesday, Middel hoped to visit Simcoe and
meet with PUC officials there since their
system is also underground.
"The number of lights have increased a
great deal over last year and based on
what I've heard, there will be more next
year," Mayor Eileen Palmer said.
Late payments

Persons receiving senior citizen's pen-
sions or disability pensions may be eligible
for late payment extensions, the PUC com-
mittee decided at the December meeting.
Late payment extensions will be granted
by the Goderich PUC to persons receiving
such pensions who apply for the extensions
and are accepted by the utility.
Persons eligible for such extensions
must provide proper identification before
their names are added to the list.
