Midgets lose first contest of year
The Goderich Legion Midget hockey
team' suffered their first defeat of the
season, losing to Strathroy by a convincing
9-3 margin.
The score truly represents the game, as
Strathroy was all over Goderich in the first
period and took a 3-0 lead. The killer was a
,goal with one second remaining in the
period.
Goderich had a bad night all over the ice.
The explosive offence was held in check by
tight play behind Strathroy's blue line. Un-
fortunately the opposite was true for the
defence as they had a hard time clearing
the puck. Another serious let down was the
Goderich power play, • which allowed
Strathroy penalty killers to score' four
goals.
But it was hardly all Goderich's fault, as
Strathroy played very well. They took ad-
vantage of the situations and always seem-
ed to find the open man.
With Strathroy ahead 5-0, 'Goderich
finally struck for two goals as the power
play finally clicked. Darrell Durnin scored
the first one when his shot. hit the post,
bounced out and hit the Strathroy
goaltender in the back and bounced into
the net. Wayne Nivins set up the goal.
Still with a man advantage, Mark
Cauchi tipped in a shot from the point.
Nivins and Gary Erb drew assists. The two
goals were scored 26 seconds apart. Any
chance of a comeback was ruined a couple
of minutes later, when Strathroy scored
