Public School in Gorrie will be the location
for the "Milk Makes It" 4-h Achievement
Night. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 28 - Bring the
children to see Santa at 7 p.m. at Courthouse
Park and stay for the annual Christmas
Lighting at 7:30 p.m. followed by Christmas
caroling.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4 - The Huron
Federation of Agricultures will be meeting
at the Hullet Central School in Londsboro at
8:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Murray
Elston, MPP for Huron -Bruce and minister
of.health. He will be speaking on "The Gdtt
Meeting in Uruguay."

Dunlop Women's Institute will be meeting in
the Colborne Township Hall in Carlow at
1:45 p.m. Topic of the meeting is education

reading and writing are tang -it) and Verna
Kane (What special education is).

Workshops planned for
Festival in December
BLYTH - Gangsters, arsonists and truck
drivers are the subjects of three new plays
to be workshopped at the Blyth Festival this
December. Three new plays, all under con-
sideration for Blyth's 1987 season, will be
workshopped by an ensemble of profes-
sional actors, writers and directors from
December 1 to 13 as part of the Blyth
Festival's ongoing play development pro-
gram. All three plays will have pyblic
readings withao admission charge-towhich
the public is cordially invited.
The Boyd Gang, the Canadian gangsters
of the 1950s, is the subject of the first play to
be workshopped. THE GIRLS AND THE
GANG by John Roby and Raymond Storey,
is a jazz musical focusing on the wives and
girlfriends of the famous bank robbery
team. The music is composed by John
Roby, who is a familiar name to Blyth au-
diences for his music for COUNTRY
HEARTS and THE LIFE THAT JACK
BUILT .
A reading of THE GIRLS AND THE
GANG is scheduled for December 5 at 7
p.m., onstage at'Blyth Memorial Hall. This
workshop will be directed by Bob White.
BUSHFIRE by Laurie Fyffe, the second
play to be workshopped, is a thrilfer based
on an actual incident which occurred in the

Ottawa valley in the 19th century. A man
loses his wife in a tragic house fire; but it is
the testimony of a small boy who'survives
the fire that begins to cast a different inter-
pretation on the events. The workshop of
BUSHFIRE will be directed by Inez Buchli.
BORDERTOWN CAFE by Albertan
playwright Kelly Rebar completes the trip
of new plays. BORDERTOWN CAFE it set,
as the title suggests, in a small cafe located
on the, border between Alberta and, Mon-
tana. The lives of a teenage boy gad ibis
mother who run the cafe are turtied'°tbpsy-
turvy when news arrives that the boy's,
father, an American truck driver who has
been absent for many years, is about to ar-
rive and wants the boy to go live with him in
the United States. The playexplores
family
relationships within the context of the dif-
ferences between Canadians and
Americans. The workshop is directed by
Katherine Kaszas.
Readings of BUSHFIRE and BORDER -
TOWN CAFE are scheduled for December
13 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lower hall
of Blyth Memorial Hall. No tickets or reser-
vations for the play readings are required,
however, times and dates are sub' ct to
change and up-to-date information mby be
obtained by calling the Festival office at
523-4345 closer to the reading dates.
