Mental Health Association formed in Clinton CLINTON - Interested individuals have volunteered their time to establish a branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) here in Huron County. At present, the group has not received formal approval from the CMHA Ontario Division, but have applied and are waiting for a response. In the meantime, the committee is at- tempting to form a network which will enable them to determine which type of agency various patients should be referred to. At the committee's November 12 meeting, a basic outline of their goals was presented. At the top of the list was increasing public awareness on mental health through educa- tion, the press, establishing a speakers' bureau, written literature and sponsoring or co -sponsoring events. One of their main objectives at the present • time is to develop a' pamphlet which will outline a patient's basic problem and give a phone number and name of an agency or in- dividual which should be contacted. Another goal of the committee is to develop programs such as self help groups, Our Gift Zb You... transportation and take a look at the ex- isting mental health agencies. As it is with most new groups, funding is a major concern. Raising funds from the private sector as well as applying for government grants will be looked into in hopes of assisting with the development of needed programs and pamphlets. At their next meeting, on December 17 starting at 9 a.m. at the new Women Today Office at 56 Huron Road, a guest speaker will be providing the committee.with details on how fund raising can be carrier. out effectively.
