Paper thanked for contribution to TV
Dear Editor:
As of Sept. 27th, 1986, "Report From the
Couniry" ceased to exist. It was "bumped"
from its spot in the late Saturday news
presentation, on CKCO-TV, Kitchener.
This feature, based on the community
press of Southwestern Ontario, was to be us-
ed as part of Gary MacLaren's "Sunday
A.M." However, this did not materialize.
Betty Thompson was to include it in her
show, "Be My Guest" at a regular time on a
set day of the week. This, too, has not been
finalized.
Now, after something over two months

With this goes my sincere thanks for your

Town and Country Homemakers need funds
Dear Editor:
As with many non-profit community ser-
vice organizations fund raising is a con-
tinual and ongoing requirement.
Our organization, Town and Country
Homemakers, provides an extremely
valuable and vital service to many in-
dividuals in. Huron County. We are commit-
ted to helping the elderly, disabled and the
chronically -ill live normal lives in the com-
munity with support services provided by
our trained homemakers. I think most
would agree people are happiest if they can
stay in their own home, providing they can
have community support if and when need-
ed. In order to continue to provide the same
level of service in the future as we have in
the past we need the help of the citizens of
Huron County
In our fall 1986 Fund Raising Campaign
we hope to raise $36,000 to be spent as
follows: Client Subsidization $10,000, Mor-
tgage $8,000, Computer system $4,000, and
Training needs $15,000. We would sincerely
appreciate receiving a donation from
anyone who feels they can assist us in
meeting our objective. A receipt for income
tax purposes will be given.
The Board of Directors would welcome.
any further questions on our organization or
the service we provide.
We sincerely hope you will see fit "TO
HELP US KEEP A GOOD HOME GOING".
Sincerely
Betty McGregor

Day care should be viewed
as a great service, says reader
Dear Editor,
A municipal day care facility would be a
great service to the town of Goderich and I
feel it should be viewed as such. •,
Although it would be of special benefit to
the 70 odd families using the present facili-
ty, over the years it would be used by
countless others. The preschool age restric-
tion at the day care limits the length ofser-
vice. As the older children move on to school
new toddlers fill the vacancies. Therefore
the service will be available to all young
families if they chose, not just a small
minority as many feel.
As for taxes, the needed revenue would be
used for the facility, not for babysitting.
Parents would continue to pay fees for their
child's care.
There is an apparent need for child care
now and there are grants available to offset
the costs. I too am not always pleased with
the way my tax dollars are spent but I feel:
by anticipating only a growing need for suchi
a service and by utilizing available funds'
now our tax dollars can be better spent to
provide this long overdue service for our
community.

Receipts needed
to claim expense
Dear Editor:
At the last Town Council meeting Coun.
Jim Searls once again raised the question
regarding receipts pertaining to expense
accounts.
This time the accounts in question were
those of members of the Police Commission
who had attended an out-of-town
conference.
My experience with expense accounts is
limited, but surely receipts are a prere-
quisite to cover expense vouchers in order to
be reimbursed for out-of-pocket
expenditures.
Unless my memory fails me utterly, this
was a subject that was discussed at the
council table some months ago.
Council, at that time, agreed that receipts
must be attached to expense vouchers in
order that anyone might claim his or her
expenses.
So why is Jim Searls still having to ask for
receipts that should automatically have
been in evidence anyway?
In closing, I must note that I have missed
the "Civic Corner" in the last few issues of
the Signal Star. May I hope that said column
will return soon!
Sincerely,
Kay Leatnen
