He played it. I couldn't believe it. I'd
made that one up.
I was headed for the door when I notic-
ed. " All The Girls Keep Gettin' Prettier
At Closing Time".
I smiled at one of 'em and she said
"Walk Out Backwards Honey And I'll
Think You're,Coming=In". The big guy
with her told me to, "Hit The Road,
Jack."
As a partingshot tpveryone in there I
pushed two quarters;ir4the juke box and
hit no. 1, "Mpmnia ;Don't Let Your
Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys".
By the time I got to the parkin' lot I felt
like "Puttin' A Bar In My Car And
Drivin' Myself To Drink".
I just got in and started drivin' no place
in particular when Waylon Jennings
came on the radio with: Everyone Wants
To Go To Heaven But I Think I'm
Headin' South."
As I put Port Colborne in my rearview
mirror and headed on home to Wainfleet
I remember thinking "I Got The
Lowdown Belmont Juke Box Blues" and
"I Don't Know Whether To Kill Myself or
Go Bowling". And besides that I lost my
appetite and 'passed up the chicken.
