The Goderich Legion Midgets remained undefeated in league play after a win and a tie last week. In Thamesford last Wednesday, Mike Radford led the Midgets to a convincing 8-2 win. He scored three times and set up two others in the win, while Barry Thompson had a goal and three assists. Goderich took a quick three -goal lead in aye ttrr,t period in the first three minutes of the game. Mark Cauchi scored the first on a pass from Tom Bean. Darrell Durnin gave Goderich a two -goal lead after taking a pass from Thompson. Then twenty-one seconds later Radford scored his first and it would prove to be the game winner. Thompson assisted on the goal. Radford scored his second late in the period to give the Midgets a 4-0 lead. There was no scoring in the second period and Midget goalie Greg Townsend stopped the few chances that Thamesford had. His shutout was lost when Thamesford opened the scoring in the third period. Goderich answered that with four goals off their own. Tress than a minute • later Radford completed the hat trick which brought Goderich back to life. Durn- in and Byron Bowman set him up. Rad- ford then sent Ian MacKinnon alone on the goalie and MacKinnon scored to make it a 6-1 lead. Thompson received his third assist on the goal. A minute later Thompson i' uasieu am'tthe after helm/ set up by Radford and Bean. Last Friday night the Legion Midgets travelled to Lambeth and tied 3-3 in a game where they should have won. The Midgets scored less than three minutes into the game when Neil Rodger blasted a shot from outside the blue line past the Lambeth goalie. The assist went to Scott Glew. Goderich took a two -goal - lead whei. Mike Beange scored on a re- bound from a Mark Cauchi shot. Lambeth scored to crake it 2-1 but Dave Duncan scored thirty-five seconds later to restore a two goal lead. Rod Nurse and Tom Bean assisted on the goal. Goderich was guilty of a let -down just before the period ended and Lambeth cut the lead to a single goal when they scored with four seconds remaining. Lambeth scored the tying goal late in the first period on a two on one that goalie Jay Williamson almost had. Goderich finally woke up but it w &o tGC.kite to r.i: g..,. the win, though Dave Duncan came close with a minute lett. Williamson played an outstanding game and was easily the best player on the ice. He came up with many key saves during the game. One worth mentioning was a three on none break that he stopped. The Legion Midgets take their 5-0-2 record to Port Stanley Saturday. They play in Exeter next Wednesday and at Home against Lucan on Saturday the 22 at 8:30. Boxing championships to be televised TV -London presents the 1987 Ontario Amateur Boxing Championships, sanc- tioned by Boxing Ontario, at The Westminster Sportsplex, 55 Whiteoak Road, London. Sponsored by The N'Amerind Friend- ship Centre, London, the Championships The annual Snowflake Bazaar, sponsored by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch 109 was held at the Legion on Nov. 6. A large crowd attended the event, which featured 30 craft tables, as well as white elephant tables, tea and baking. TV -London will televise eight bouts of the finals live Sunday, November 16, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Huron County Museum volunteers elect executive A new slate of officers was accepted at meeting of the Huron County Museum Volunteers, held Nov. 4 in the museum board room. The 1987 executive for the group is: Bon- nie Dunn, past chairman; Howard Harris, chairman; Pat Hamilton, vice-chairman; Blaine White, secretary; Dave Thorne, treasurer; Mary Ann Dempsey, education committee; Betty Bodaly, quilt show; Ger- trude Wilkes, telephone committee; Blaine White, advertising. Treasurer Thorne reported the organiza- tion has $787.85 in the bank. Bonnie Dunn was put in charge of a com- mittee to make a float for the Goderich Santa Clause Parade, on Nov. 22, working on a "Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child" theme. The volunteers reported on the events they took part in during the summer. Betty Bodaly commented on the successful quilt show at the museum and thanked everyone who helped put up and take down quilts. Staff members reported the show boosted attendance at the museum for the three weeks it ran. Pat Hamilton and Mary. Ann Dempsey commented on the museum's display at the recent professional development day for area teachers, in Exeter. The model of the projectd museutn Was 'shown. Ross Merrill demonstrated rope -making and Marjorie Emmerson candle -making. The slide presentation on the mining of salt in Goderich, presented by Blaine White and Bonnie Dunn was very well-received. Mary Ann Dempsey passed out a ques- tionaire among the teachers and dicovered many of them did not realize how much the county museum had to offer students. It was noted, with the museum in a construc- tion period, the staff and volunteers should get more information about the museum to area schools. Pat Hamilton discussed the Hallowe'en activities for children that were held at the log cabin at the museum and the jail grounds. The volunteers and staff have attended many parades and and fairs during the past summer. They demonstrated rope- making and threshing at the Point Farms Pioneer Days. They took 'the spinning wheel, on the back of the old Ford truck to the Clinton Kloompenfeest. The truck took first place at the Lticknow Fair and the Bayfield summer parade. The Colborne Township and Port Albert celebrations were also attended by the staff. Marjorie Emmerson recommended the motet= newsletter, Legacy, should print a section on the volunteers' work and the group agreed. The next meeting will be .tan, 6 at 10 a.m. in the board room. r.
