Legi n Mii±hgets win, tie in
t To iea:ean rsthis week
_..
The Goderich Legion Midgets remained
undefeated in league play after a win and a
tie last week.
In Thamesford last Wednesday, Mike
Radford led the Midgets to a convincing 8-2
win. He scored three times and set up two
others in the win, while Barry Thompson
had a goal and three assists.
Goderich took a quick three -goal lead in
aye ttrr,t period in the first three minutes of
the game. Mark Cauchi scored the first on
a pass from Tom Bean. Darrell Durnin
gave Goderich a two -goal lead after taking
a pass from Thompson. Then twenty-one
seconds later Radford scored his first and
it would prove to be the game winner.
Thompson assisted on the goal. Radford
scored his second late in the period to give
the Midgets a 4-0 lead.
There was no scoring in the second
period and Midget goalie Greg Townsend
stopped the few chances that Thamesford
had. His shutout was lost when
Thamesford opened the scoring in the
third period. Goderich answered that with
four goals off their own. Tress than a minute •
later Radford completed the hat trick
which brought Goderich back to life. Durn-
in and Byron Bowman set him up. Rad-
ford then sent Ian MacKinnon alone on the
goalie and MacKinnon scored to make it a
6-1 lead. Thompson received his third assist
on the goal. A minute later Thompson
i' uasieu am'tthe after helm/ set up by
Radford and Bean.
Last Friday night the Legion Midgets
travelled to Lambeth and tied 3-3 in a
game where they should have won.
The Midgets scored less than three
minutes into the game when Neil Rodger
blasted a shot from outside the blue line
past the Lambeth goalie. The assist went
to Scott Glew. Goderich took a two -goal -
lead whei. Mike Beange scored on a re-
bound from a Mark Cauchi shot. Lambeth
scored to crake it 2-1 but Dave Duncan
scored thirty-five seconds later to restore
a two goal lead. Rod Nurse and Tom Bean
assisted on the goal.
Goderich was guilty of a let -down just
before the period ended and Lambeth cut
the lead to a single goal when they scored
with four seconds remaining. Lambeth
scored the tying goal late in the first period
on a two on one that goalie Jay Williamson
almost had. Goderich finally woke up but it
w &o tGC.kite to r.i: g..,. the win, though Dave
Duncan came close with a minute lett.
Williamson played an outstanding game
and was easily the best player on the ice.
He came up with many key saves during
the game. One worth mentioning was a
three on none break that he stopped.
The Legion Midgets take their 5-0-2
record to Port Stanley Saturday. They
play in Exeter next Wednesday and at
Home against Lucan on Saturday the 22 at
8:30.
