GODERICH MINOR
HOCKEY REPORT
The Goderich Lion Peewees were in ac-
tion twice last week, defeating Clinton 6-5
Wednesday and losing 5-0 to London
Sabres here Saturday.
In the Clinton game, third period
penalties almost did the Lions in as Clinton
came from behind a 5-2 deficit to the tie' the
game and they could easily have won but
Lion goaltender Bob Lumley snagged a
sure goal prior to the Lion's winning goal.
Andrew McLarty was the Liens' offen-
sive star of the night, scoring three goals.
His third goal, which turned out to be the
game winner, was a shorthanded effort
with just over one minute left in the game.
Mark Philips, Sean O'Brien and Paul
Hamilton were the other Lion goal scorers.
Jason Jeffrey had two assists with single
assists going to Sean Bloch, Jeff Beange,
O'Brien and Hamilton.

played second period. Scott Vallieres got
the only goal past Randy Gaynor who was
outstanding in the Sailors' net.
By the third period, the inevitable occur-
red. The valiant Sailors ran out of wind
and the hungry Bears outscored them 5-1.
' to win by one goal. Scott Morgan got two of
them, including the winner with 2:37 left in
the game. Vallieres, Ian Brooks and Kevin
Barfoot got the others.
Shawn Larder, on a nice passing play
with Chris Sideris, got the lone Goderich
goal.
The loss was disappointing but coaches
Dick Madge and Dale Duncan had nothing
but praise for the 12 Sailors who played.
The Sailors have struggled to survive
because of a player shortage an season
and their woes continue.
Several of the players who could make a
contribution have failed to make a real
commitment to the team and it has made it
difficult for those who have. The coaches
are hoping to have some new faces in the
lineup by Friday night.
Sunday, the Sailors, with several
midgets in the lineup, had more players
but got to play only two periods. The
Blackhawks outscored the Sailors 5-1 in
the first -period although the shots were
even at 12 apiece.
The Sailors mounted a bit of a come-
back scoring twice early in the second
period to make the score 5-3, but Walker-
ton scored three more times in the last five
minutes of the period.
At the end of the period, as the teams
were leaving the ice, an alteration broke
out. Although only one fight involving ope
player from each team occurred, referee
Paul Robson assessed each team five
game misconduct penalties on the basis
that the players had failed to leave the
vicinity of the altercation. The lienalties
left the teams so short of players that the
third period could not be played. Both
teams have sent letters to the O.H.A. com-
plaining about Robson's lack of judgment
in the situation.
Daryl Madge, who was the dominant
player on the ice, scored two of the
Goderich goals. Tom Bean had the other.
