After 23 years employment with the
x Goderich municipal board of education
and the Huron County Board of Education,
custodian Ben Freeman of Goderich has
retired.
Freeman, born and raised in Goderich,
began his duties as chief custodian at Vic-
toria Public School under principal Ralph
Smith in 1963. He continued at Victoria un-
til 1981.

and Bonnie Graham,„ Freeman said.
Since transferring to Robertson
Memorial Public School in February 1981,
Freeman has worked as chief custodian
under principal Angus McClennan.
"I'm certainly grateful to have been in
the company of so many outstanding
education people over the past years and I
owe it all to the board of .education for hir-
ing me. But, after 23 years and two mon-
ths of work, I'm taking early retirement,”
Freeman, who will celebrate his 65th birth-
day in December, said.
Freeman, who recently celebrated his
33rd wedding anniversary with wife Irene,
intends to take small trips and catch up on
some reading now that he has retired.
On October 27, the staff at Robertson
held a party at the Maitland Golf and
Country Club to honorFreeman. Both past
and present staff from Robertson and Vic-
toria public schools attended the dinner.
Freeman was presented with a print of a
gentleman relaxing in front of a fire by the
teachers.
Following- are comments from Robert-
son staff members about Freeman.
"I've known Mr. Freeman for two years
and I will really miss him,"
MacLennan said.
"Best wishes for his retirement. He was
always friendly to the children," Mrs. M.
Freeman said.
"I've known Mr. Freeman for six yearsa
and we'll miss him letting us know where
the lunch room is. Grade 1 hopes he keeps
busy and has a good rest during.his retire-
ment," Mrs. S. Brown said.
"The kids certainly kept him busy but
somehow he • managed to keep the school
clean. 1 wish him a very happy retirement
and hope he never has to use a broom
again," said Miss J. Rankin, Grade 1 and 2
teacher.
"After five years of knowing Mr.,
Freeman, he will be missed very much,"
Mrs. C. Scratch said.
"I've known Mr. Freeman for 10 years
and I'm happy for him. I'm going to miss
his gruff nature," Mr. D. Mason said.
"After 20 years I'm disappointed to see
him go. We are going to miss the delayed
weather reports. He was always willing to
do a job for the teachers and he really
cared about the students," said Mr. D.
Currie:
"I've known Mr. Freeman for five or six,
years and he's a very worthwhile member
of the staff. I hope hee has the best of hick
and health and enjoyment of his retire-
ment," Mr. J. Scratch said.
"Mr. Freeman will be missed by all the
children at Robertson but I hope he has a
happy retirement,"•Mrs. F. Dyck said.
"He was always there to open the door
