very department plays an
integral role in the production
of a Champion road grader
but the purchasing department of
the company is a focal point where a
great deal of pressure comes to
bear.
More than just purveyors of office
and production supplies, the
purchasing department impacts on
every operation within the company
and keeps them operational. Without
the proper raw materials, finished
parts and cn_mpeneniry, Litt
manufacturing process would
literally come to a standstill.

manager Al Smith and his five
buyers dread and avoid at all costs,
but it at least serves to offer
credence to Smith's contention that
the department is "in the middle of
everything."
"We do something for everyone in
the company" Smith explained. -
"We've had to try to be all things to
all people and we became a focal .
point. There is a lot ,of pressure and
what we do impacts on many
departments."
Everything from office supplies
