Management, however, is in agreement that MRP is an investment that will pay dividends. A company -wide system that impacts on all departments, MRP 'gives the company better inventory control and should, ultimately, lead to a more cost-efficient operation. "The system will help us balance inventory and it will give the buyers more time; they were always fighting fires," Rumig explained. "It's a company -wide system and a great planning tool but people will make it work." Training and education has extended through all ranks in the company in the most comprehensive education program ever offered at Champion. Kevin's four-year job as co- ordinator of the MRP program has been a demanding but interesting venture. He can see the merits of the system through the workload,the intangibles, the unexpected' computer breakdowns and the long hours. A member of the MRP project team, Dennis attended training sessions in Atlanta and California and now acts as secretary.
