Champion ultimately has to serve the needs and requirements of the user and the company's chief test engineer, Gil Boyd, believes the test department is responding to the marketplace. "We need that end user contact so that problems with the product can be referred to engineering and looked at," he said. "The r uirements ani netdls Ali the customer have to be looked at. It's also a basic requirement for new designs." Now the chief test engineer, Gil was first hired as a project engineer .. in the test area in 1982, the same year the Research and Development segment was moved from Victoria Street. The testing component now ' shares space with service people at the Huckins Street facility. The RND department has traditionally been involved in the prototyping of components and graders as well as the testing of graders.
