"You got to know the operators,
that's for sure," Kip said. "It was
interesting work."
In 1959, Kip left the sales
department and returned to the
manufacturing side of the industry
where he became involved in world-
wide service and training. At that
time Champion was a neophyte in
the international export market but
Kip soon became a world traveller.
Away for as much as two or three
months at a time, he has travelled to

' countries, Tanzania, Australia, New'
Zealand, Argentina and Turkey.
Ch°mpion soon became renowned
for both its product and service but
sometimes, as Kip points out, the
company had to prove itself. As
evidence, he offers the story about
the time he received a telex about
grader problems in Yugoslavia.
Responding to the call personally,
Kip found the grader was in fine
running condition when he arrived.
"The guy told me it wasn't broken,
he just wanted to prove he could get
service," he recalled. "Satisfied he
could service, he ordered two more
graders. We handled service well,

Communication with regional
dealers is an important aspect of
service considering the dealers are
close to the end users. With
assistance from the product support
people,. Champion owners get the
best possible service, world wide.
"The techniques of service have
changed and customers can get
informa tion faster today by
telephone or telex. We'll go in as a
last step" he explained. "We have a
world wide training program and
ipechanics come here for specialized
training and the videos work well for
repairs."
White has set viced graders in
every corner of the world and has

But he will readily agree that quality
and workmanship is reflected in
Champion's product today.
"We have to keep hammering at •
quality but the quality is much
improved today and we make more
effort at quality control," he said.
"New parts are proven and tested."
Kip is the elder statesman of
active Champion employees and
over the years he has tried to give
something of himself in return. A
member of the Quarter Century
Foundation, he is also a driving
force behind the company's Antique
Club, a group of employees
dedicated torestoring old Champion
but we've had help from products.
