In 1959, Kip left the sales department and returned to the manufacturing side of the industry where he became involved in world- wide service and training. At that time Champion was a neophyte in the international export market but Kip soon became a world traveller. Away for as much as two or three months at a time, he has travelled to ,15 �„a.:�a, ......,_ 'r os -- /A ll'il•A 14. cuc„ � ' countries, Tanzania, Australia, New' Zealand, Argentina and Turkey. Ch°mpion soon became renowned for both its product and service but sometimes, as Kip points out, the company had to prove itself. As evidence, he offers the story about the time he received a telex about grader problems in Yugoslavia. Responding to the call personally, Kip found the grader was in fine running condition when he arrived. "The guy told me it wasn't broken, he just wanted to prove he could get service," he recalled. "Satisfied he could service, he ordered two more graders. "We have to keep hammering at • quality but the quality is much improved today and we make more effort at quality control," he said. "New parts are proven and tested." Kip is the elder statesman of active Champion employees and over the years he has tried to give something of himself in return.
