Lyons & Mulhern Insurance Brokers are located at 46
West Street in a building that was one of the first banks
in Goderich. The Bank of Upper Canada was built in 1868
(approx.). The building remains much the same as it was
then. There have been insurance offices in the building
for more than 35 years.
in 1976 Wayne & Heather Lyons openeti a genre ai i.a-
surance office at 58 Elgin Avenue East here in Goderich.
The original aim was to provide automobile and proper-

Patrick E. Whalen. They sold their agency in Guelph in
1979 and made a total commitment to their Goderich
clients since that time.
In 1978 after a successful 15 year career as an Insurance
Adjuster, Jim Mulhern purchased the existing general in-
"`'"'"`'"' surance portfolio from Malcolm Mathers at 46 West
Street. Mr Mathers and his wife Adelaide came to
Goderich in 1947 with Mr. Mathers becoming active in
the insurance business after purchasing the agencies of
Mr. Long and then of Mr. Craigie.
13y June 1980 Jim and Wayne had decided to combine their
two agencies to form what is now known as Lyons &
Mulhern Insurance Brokers.

White, who works in product
support, has fixed Champion graders
in every nook and cranny of Ontario
and manv countries around the
world for over 44 years.
A native of Goderich, White was

Attridge, who owned the company
from 1938 on, offered him a job. He
started his career at the Dominion
Road Machinery Company on
September 23, 1942 as an apprentice
in the machine shop and has been
with the company ever since.
While he had started his career
with the company at the East Street
plant, after a three-year stint in the
Canadian army from 1943-46, he
came back to a job in the machine
shop at the Maitland Road location..
Kip recalls that things were tough
for the company after the war
contracts had expired and many
employees faced temporary layoffs.
"There was a slow up and the
plant closed for three months when
the war work ended. But things were
tough all over," he explained.

the service department, servicing
graders all over Ontario for $35 a
week and 3'/2 cents a mile.
Quite often graders would be
repaired in the operatc's driveway,
because most townships hadn't built
municipal sheds. It took Kip three
days to fix a grader near Brussels
once because the roads were blocked
with snow and it was impossible to
get the necessary parts.
Another time, on a job in Eullarton
Township, the required service part
